Was Tess for real? This was supposed to be a meeting for just the two of us. What stunt was she trying to pull tagging Ryan along? Had he become a bodyguard or purse? I was boiling inside. I wanted to shoot both of them dead. I gulped my Vodka in one go and trust you me, my throat has never been violated like that before. I felt so betrayed. Tyson was right. I didn’t have to be involved in her mess. She was in love and nothing would change her mind regarding Ryan. She had been sexually “bewitched”. They came straight to my table and Tess gave me a very loose hug like I was full of lice…..yet I was wearing a skirt suit worth 4k! Did she

 

even know that in one day I had made 1 million plus some thousands on top…….I

 

felt violated. I had to revenge and it happened that I had the weapon with me.

 

Ryan extended his hand for a handshake and I totally ignored him. Who was he to greet me after creating fake stories. I wasn’t going to pretend that I was okay. I was not there to please him either. I was pissed and instead of picking my things and walking away I decided to stay and light some big bonfire. I was going to bring the roof down. Tess read my mind.

 

TESS: Don’t worry Jade, Ryan is not staying. He needed to confirm who I was meeting. He has become so insecure and jealous lately.

 

JADE: I see, that’s so cool of him, but I don’t mind if he stays.

 

TESS: Are you sure about that?

 

JADE: Oooh yes dear. He is part of you now.

 

TESS: (to Ryan) Babe can you stay, at least for a drink.

 

RYAN: No I can’t, I haven’t closed the shop yet and I am expecting a client.

 

Was that client Raksha? My mind started to work overtime. I gave Ryan a very bad look and I saw his face twitching. Probably in his small mind he thought we were just going to catch up for old times sake. He hugged Tess, kissed her on the forehead and left. Funny enough, he was no longer good looking, or was I just so angry at him? Tess sat down and placed her handbag on the next seat. She smiled and I could see the unhappiness on her face, maybe she didn’t want Ryan to leave. They had bonded and were now like a nut and bolt…tight! Anyway, I was about to spoil all that.

 

JADE: You are looking good. How have you been?

 

TESS: I am okay Jade, as you can see I am still with Ryan and life couldn’t be better. So what’s up?

 

JADE: I think you should order for a drink first.

 

 

I called the waiter who had served me and Tess ordered for a soda. I thought we were doing whisky. I kept my cool, I didn’t have to ask her why she was taking soda, she volunteered the information.

 

TESS: Ryan asked me not to drink alcohol. He wants me to go home early and prepare dinner for us.

 

JADE: That’s new! So you two are actually on the road to living together. Seems he has taken charge of you and your life plus your belongings and that includes your house.

 

TESS: It is not like that dear. I just let him be in charge. I don’t want us to have tension and petty squabbles.

 

JADE: Next he will tell you to leave your job and you will resign coz you don’t want tension, yah?

 

TESS: It can’t come to that. By the way who was that man who kissed you here the other day?

 

JADE: That was a client, he caught me off guard actually, but it was one hell of a kiss. It is still lingering in my mouth.

 

TESS: Since when did you start kissing clients?

 

JADE: Since that day.

 

I saw the look on her face. She had more questions to ask about Travis but I wasn’t going to give her room to make me feel like a whore. That meeting was about her and not me and I was not going to give her room to bring in unproductive chit chat. She kept looking at her phone and I wondered if she was expecting a call or “I miss you” text from Ryan. The waiter brought her soda; she poured half of it in the glass and took a sip.

 

TESS: I am not used to taking sodas in a club.

 

 

JADE: Then take what you are used to. Why should a man control what you drink yet he is not paying for it and you are not an addict? Wake up Tess.

 

Even before she said no, I called the waiter back and asked her to bring for Tess Two Tots of Jameson Whisky, I wanted to put her in the right mood for the dossier, if she was sober and me tipsy, things would not go well. I needed us to be like minded, tipsy and pissed and on the same level. She smiled and thanked me.

 

JADE: So Tess, you finally gave Ryan the loan he needed, coz I can see the degree of love has increased.

 

TESS: I haven’t, actually I am supposed to give him the cheque tonight. You see I had put all that money in a fixed deposit account. It matured yesterday and I am giving him one million.

 

JADE: Really? Now it has shot to 1million? Ryan is a lucky man.

 

TESS: It is a loan which he has promised to refund as soon as possible.

 

JADE: You have a written agreement?

 

TESS: No, what for? I trust the guy, he is my man now.

 

I felt like removing Calvin’s report and throwing it on her face, but time was coming for that soon enough.

 

JADE: I understand. And how does he relate with Skyla?

 

TESS: The best dad she could ever get. Ryan is warm and loves kids, so he treats Skyla like his own.

 

JADE: How heavenly. Daily I pray to get a man like that in future. What about your mum? She must be very happy for you.

 

TESS: She is very happy, they cope so well. She already treats him like a son-in– law. In fact last weekend they had a blast at her home while I was away, you know with who. I had to lie that it was a work thing and I was needed. So Ryan went to

 

 

my mums. Skyla told me she went to bed and left them drinking and chatting. I am so happy mum has accepted him.

 

That was the time to blow the whistle. I was just about to remove the documents when the waiter came with her drink. She was thirsty, she drunk the whole of it at ago and asked her to bring a whole bottle. That was music to my ears, she was getting comfortable. Her phone rang and she grabbed it so fast, it was Ryan coz I heard….

 

“DON’T WORRY BABE, I AM FINE. I WILL BE DONE BY 8PM. WILL CALL YOU THEN”

 

I smiled. Love was in the air. Ryan was hot on her heals because it was pay day or was it loan day? She put back the phone on the table and looked bored to me. I could read her face very well. Something was eating her up but she was afraid to admit to me because she had accused me of some nasty things. Since I was on the receiving end, I needed to clear things first before bombing her. I told her that I going to Ryan’s shop was for her own good and that I had no intention of seducing him. I even told her to go and ask his attendants because chances are that they heard our conversation. As for the kiss that she kept singing about at every opportunity, I told her exactly how it came about. I also owned up to the fact that it was a good kiss, but I was drunk at the moment. She listened without saying a word.

 

JADE: Say something Tess, don’t look at me as if I am a playing a fast and shrilling guitar in your ears. Am I irritating you?

 

TESS: No Jade, you are not irritating me at all. I am trying to add one plus one and so far so good. It is almost adding up to two.

 

JADE: I don’t get you my dear. You are talking in parable now.

 

TESS: Jade, in a way I knew he was lying, but I was blinded with love and PHD in foolishness.

 

JADE: What has changed?

 

 

TESS: Please I am telling you this as a friend. First, I want to apologize for texting you badly and calling you bad names. It was acting “under the heat of the moment”, Forgive me Jade.

 

My heart melted inside, she was opening up. Tess was a smart woman and I knew she had seen things, but on the flip of the coin, she was in love and didn’t want to lose Ryan. She was afraid to be alone again. My ears stood up like a rabbits’, I needed to know what she had found out before a smeared butter on the crunchy bread.

 

JADE: I forgave you and that is why I didn’t reply to that text coz we could have ended up disrespecting each other badly.

 

TESS: That was a smart move coz to be honest, Ryan is the one who typed that message. It wasn’t me. I was mad and angry and I told him I will talk to you about it the next day. He insisted that I break off our friendship immediately. He then grabbed my phone and texted you. He gave me the text to read after he sent it, I felt bad but the damage had been done. If you replied, he would have continued abusing you to make me look bad.

 

JADE: It is okay, dear. I missed you so much, I almost grew a beard from the pain of missing our drinking escapades. Now tell me what’s happening.

 

She laughed at the beard joke.

 

TESS: Skyla told me something that I don’t want to believe and I haven’t asked Ryan or my mother.

 

I almost jumped off my seat with excitement. She poured more whisky in her glass and took it neat, with alcohol packed in her head, I knew she was going to pour her heart out. Every organ in my body was doing a happy dance except for my liver, always stubborn! I urged her to continue.

 

JADE: Tell me baby girl, maybe I can advise you on what to do. I am here for you.

 

 

TESS: This will sound awkward but I don’t see the reason why my daughter should lie to me. I told you that last weekend I was a way and Ryan went to my mum’s. Skyla saw them kissing.

 

JADE: The hell! Kissing as in peck on the cheeks or mouth to mouth resuscitation?

 

TESS: Get serious Jade. I am really disturbed about this. It was a deep kiss. She had gone up to sleep then felt thirsty, from up the stairs, she saw them kissing on the couch. She went back to bed. She couldn’t face them. I tried to assure her that maybe it was just a by the way act. Since then she avoids Ryan and has refused to go back to her grandma’s over the weekends. She is traumatized.

 

JADE: Tess, as a friend and someone who cares for you, I will tell you to believe your daughter 300%. Just like me, she has no reason to lie to you. And she is not blind, what she saw is true.

 

TESS: How do you know it is true, did you see them?

 

JADE: No, I wasn’t there, but I have a dossier of my own. Please, please, don’t overreact to what I have to tell you. Don’t scream and don’t be dramatic. Promise me you will be calm until we have a revenge plan.

 

TESS: What are you talking about Jade, stop scaring me please. Okay I promise to keep calm and be less dramatic, hoping that it is something I can handle.

 

JADE: The reason Ryan told you all those bad things about me is because I found out something.

 

At that point Tess opened her eyes wide. I saw panic on her face and I was afraid she might die on me if I told her everything. But there was no better time than that time. I wasn’t going to let her give that money to Ryan.

 

TESS: Is he cheating on me? Is he? Please tell me it is not true.

TESS: Another woman?

 

JADE: Not just another woman, it was your mother.

 

She stood up in a flash, held the table with both hands and looked at me directly in the eyes. I almost died from her piercing look. I didn’t know how to react. I prayed she doesn’t collapse or do something bad like hit my head with the whisky bottle.

 

TESS: You are out of all your five senses. Are you sure it was my mum you saw?

 

JADE: Yes, I am. I went to the shop to confront Ryan. He couldn’t let me into his “office” and while he was busy with a client I sneaked in, and guess what was in that office?

 

TESS: Drugs?

 

JADE: A bed.

 

She was still standing and I begged her to sit down because there was more. I poured her some more whisky and told her to drink. She gulped it all in and closed her eyes tightly and when she opened them she banged the table and I almost took off.

 

TESS: A bed, yeah. Are we in a movie theatre or this is real? Please Jade, are you telling me that the other bitch in his life is my own mother.

 

JADE: I don’t know about that, but when I confronted Ryan. He was so mad at me. He literally chased me away from his shop. And so I decided to have him investigated coz I knew he was hiding something.

 

TESS: What did you find out. I will deal with that bastard myself. But first things first. How can one keep a bed in an office if not for quickies? Ooh God!

 

 

She opened her handbag took the cheque she had written to Ryan and gave it to me. She told me to hold on to it until further notice. I kissed it before putting it in my purse. If only it was in my name, damn! I remembered my own million and felt like changing the subject and tell Tess about my sex with Travis and how I made a cool million in a day. Jesus is still Lord, I whispered to myself as Tess removed her Bra through her sleeves. She claimed it was tight and irritating her tender boobs. I had missed her craziness for real. Who does that in a club?

 

JADE: Can you read?

 

TESS: Do I look blind to you?

 

JADE: Okay, I am going to give you a report to read. Please Tess, once again I beg you, don’t do anything silly here. Stay calm then we hatch the best plan for revenge. Are we together love?

 

TESS: Give me the fu.cking report.

 

She shouted and I immediately removed the report and gave to her. The speed at which her eyes were moving across the report only reminded me of the Fast & Furious series of movies. I was scared, my bladder suddenly filled up but I couldn’t excuse myself. She quickly flipped the second page as I watched with fear to my toes. She finally looked up and I expected a bomb blast. She didn’t say anything for a minute. She extended her hand and gave me back the papers. In a soft voice….

 

TESS: Who did the investigations for you?

 

JADE: A CID friend to my boss

 

TESS: Does your boss know about all these?

 

JADE: Yes, he read it but he promised not to tell anyone.

 

TESS: Who else knows?

 

 

I couldn’t tell her that Travis knew, she hardly knew the guy anyway. That would be a story for another day.

 

JADE: No one else. Only Tyson, me and the CID.

 

TESS: Jade, my heart has stopped beating.

 

JADE: Please Tess, we will work out something. Don’t do anything irrational.

 

TESS: Have you read that report.

 

JADE: More than once

 

TESS: Good.

 

At that moment, Tess stood up, put her phone in her handbag and ran out of the club like a missile. I took off after her and couldn’t catch up. I removed my high heels and tried to ran after her as other revellers watched in awe. At the main entrance I knocked a waiter, lost my balance and fell down. My skirt got pulled up and I was down there, my white expensive pant all over the place. A gentleman came and lifted me up. I quickly pulled the skirt down and ran to the parking lot. Tess was quickly reversing her car on high speed. What I heard next was a loud bang as she hit a car which was passing by. I screamed her name as I rushed to the car!!!!!

 

When I reached the car, she had both her legs up on the dash Board and she was

 

laughing like a mad woman. The owner of the Prado she had hit came towards us

 

while cursing on top of his voice. I looked at him closely…….. And I immediately

 

recognized him. I sold him that car two years before. What happened when Tess got out of the car punctured my lungs…. DAMN! DAMN!
