I Will Wait – Episode 34

It had been a month from the time Cornelius had made things official with Yolanta, she was very happy with him and she knew that her search was over. What is better than dating a good man and having your sister date his brother? They were the perfect four and nothing could stand against them.

Yolanta was getting ready for the outing that Wane had prepared, her little sister had gotten herself a job with a law firm and she wanted to spend her first salary on the only true friend she knew. Despite Yolanta protesting so many times, Wane just couldn’t take no for an answer.

‘Is this okay?’ Yolanta asked pointing at her boot warmers

‘Dude I am taking you to an exquisite restaurant, you won’t embarrass me with those Mickey Mouse shoes.’ Wane screamed with laughter

Yolanta went back to her shoe rank and still couldn’t find anything perfect to wear, after a whole lot of debating she settled for black wedges on her boyfriend jeans, vest and cardigan.

‘Now that is better.’ Wane said as she stood up to pick up her hand bag. ‘Oh I forgot my phone.’

‘You don’t need it, its ladies night.’

‘What if Cornelius calls?’

‘Well he will get an explanation later.’

This didn’t sit well with Yolanta but she couldn’t let her sister down, she had planned this dinner for a month and now that it had approached nothing could go wrong.

They left in Wane’s new car, her dad had bought it for her as her graduation present.

After driving for over thirty minutes, they parked into a secluded area. From the parking lot one could tell that it wasn’t a cheap place. ‘Wane can you afford this?’ a worried Yolanta asked

‘No, they will make us wash their dishes and mop their floors afterwards.’ She said sarcastically

‘Sorry.’

‘Let us go.’

They got out of the car and walked to the entrance of the place, the security guards there demanded for identification and Wane showed them a card. All this was a

surprise to Yolanta, she had not been to such a place and even though her sister was getting good money she still doubted if she could afford this. The place looked more beautiful inside, it had about four sections.

On one side was a bar, the other a casino, the third a restaurant and the fourth a lounge.

A lady dressed like a waiter came and took their coats and showed them to their table. It was just on the far end giving them a view to all the corners of the room and exposing the pool outside. Yolanta was busy thinking of all the great stories she could come up with just by looking at this marvellous place that Wane took it upon herself to order their cocktails.

‘Hai.’ Cornell said pecking Wane’s lips lightly ‘I didn’t see you coming in.’ she told him

‘Babe.’ Cornelius said disrupting Yolanta’s thoughts She looked at him excitedly.

He moved to where she was, standing behind her he tilted her head backwards and kissed her hungrily on the lips.

‘Get a room.’ Both Wane and Cornell shouted Yolanta shyly smiled

‘I missed you.’ She told him

‘I missed you more my baby.’

He sat opposite her and they held hands, she couldn’t believe that Wane had planned this without her knowledge but she was glad that her man was with her. After having their drinks, Cornelius stood up and asked Yolanta to go with him outside.

They walked on the poolside hand in hand and he asked her that they sit with their feet in the water.

‘But babe isn’t it cold?’ she asked worriedly ‘It is actually warm.’

He helped her with her shoes and also folded her jeans then held her hand whilst she placed her feet in the pool.

‘You know I love you right?’ he asked kissing the back of her hand ‘You tell me.’

‘I love your sense of your humour, I love the writer in you, I love that you love your family above everything else. And above all I love that beneath this shell there is a woman I want to grow old with.’

‘Marry me.’ He said removing a ring from his pocket

Never in her wildest dreams had she ever thought that marriage would come her way and now here he was. The man she had grown to love and trust with all her heart asking her to marry him. Not in the most romantic way but meaning every single word he was uttering.

‘Why me?’ she asked with a straight face.

‘I have never been surer of anyone, I want crazy and sanity with you, I want the reserved person that you are and I also want the freak that you turn into around me.’

‘Marry me.’ He said once again

‘Yes, I will marry you.’

I looked through the papers that my private investigator had given me, you see I had made my own share of mistakes in life but I just couldn’t understand why Cornelius would easily fall for his brother’s ex-girlfriend when he had loved his own for a long time. I looked at the files in my hands again, my heart was crushed. I had failed as a father, my children had all let me down and I knew too well that it was my fault but how was I going to do this without hurting my wife.

She walked into the room and stared at me for a few minutes before coming to join me on the bed.

‘It isn’t your fault that they turned out the way they did.’ She said softly

‘I contributed to the outcome.’

‘You found out?’ she asked

‘I did.’ I said handling her the papers

She perused through them and put them back in the envelop with a sigh. ‘How long have you known?’ I asked her ‘Long enough.’

‘And you couldn’t say anything?’

‘I knew that in due time you would find out, I was just hoping that it wouldn’t be too late.’

‘What else do you know?’

‘For now nothing except that they are getting married.’ ‘And Esther?’

‘She plans on hurting Wane but it isn’t happening.’

‘Good, let him proceed with his plan but we will make sure nothing happens to her.’

She just nodded her head and walked out of the room, I had done everything in my powers to make it obvious that I preferred Cornelius to Cornell and yet he had turned out to be the total opposite of his brother.
