“Okay, I will have my bath now granny,after that we would leave for the hospital.”

 

“Alright but please use the washroom okay? Don’t go swimming.”

 

 

“Anything for you.” I replied curtly and got up from the bed.

 

I collected the trash about to go out when I saw Aria leaning on the door frame.

 

“You’re here?”

 

“Yes Pearl, how are you doing?” She asked and got in. “And you granny?”

 

“Am fine but granny is not really fine so we’ll be leaving for the hospital soon.” I explained.

 

“I was going to have my bath but since you are here then could you stay with granny for a moment?”

 

“Of course, why not.” She replied.

 

I smiled and went out.

 

I got to the bathroom not long enough when I heard Aria’s high-pitched voice scream my name.

 

What was wrong?

 

In one swift movement,I poured all the water on me and without drying my body, I got with just my towel wrapped around my body.

 

“What’s wrong Aria?” I asked when I got in.

 

She pointed to granny with fear written all over her face.

 

Slowly, I looked at granny who was jerking uncontrollably on the bed.

 

He’s having a seizure but why haven’t it stopped yet? Most seizures last from 30 seconds to two minutes but granny’s own has exceeded the time. If it’s last for more than 5 minutes, that means he needs an immediate surgical surgery.

 

There’s no need going to his side to help it calm down because it won’t.

 

“Calm down Aria. It’s just a seizure, he will calm down soon.” I assured her and went behind the curtain in our room.

 

I threw the towel away from me and puts on one of my flowery dresses.

 

I didn’t dry my hair either then I got out after taking all my savings from my piggy bank.

 

My eyes darted to granny and he has already lost consciousness.

 

“We’re going to the hospital Aria.”

 

“I will come with.”

 

“Alright thanks.”

 

With the help of Aria, I took granny to the hospital before she left for home .

 

He was immediately taken to the emergency room.

 

“Are you his relative?” The doctor came out and asked.

 

“Yes doctor. He’s my granny.”I stood from where I was sitting.

 

“Are you the only relative?”

 

“Yes doctor.”

 

“Alright. His set date for the surgery had elapsed causing he’s tumor to spread into his brain which means he needed an immediate surgery and there’s low chances to his survival.” The doctor explained.

 

Granny lied to me about the set date but how did he do it? He’s file was with me all along and am absolutely sure about the date so what exactly did he do? Did he changed the date himself before the file was handed to me? I know the surgery he

 

 

was about to undergo is extremely painful and I recalled how I had to convince him to agree to the treatment. Was that the reason why he postponed the date?

 

“What method are you going to use doctor?” I asked lowly.

 

“Radiosurgery.”

 

“Radiosurgery?” I questioned.

 

“Yes, that’s the only option. Initially, we planned for a radio therapy but looking at the size of his tumor and his age, radiosurgery will be more convenient.”

 

“Alright doctor, the surgery can commence.”

 

I knew this was a huge risk but there’s no harm in trying. I turned to go sit back but stopped when I noticed that the doctor hasn’t moved an inch.

 

“You need to make a deposit of one million dollars before the surgery could commence.” He stated.

 

One million?

 

I stared grossly at the meagre money in my hands as tears pricked my eyes.

 

I walked to him”This is all I have doctor, will you please take it and start the surgery I promise to bring the rest today.” I pleaded tremulously.

 

“This money won’t be enough young lady. We still have an hour left to start so if you can use that time to get the money, then do it before it’s too late else you will regret it.”

 

What? How am I to get one million in just an hour?

 

I won’t even get it if I sell myself.

 

Why in earth will they charge such money?

 

Is not like they’re going to make him young again right?

 

 

“Will you spend the whole day thinking?” The doctor asked.

 

I blinked multiple times and gulped. I shook my head then left the hospital premises.

 

I never knew I would be spending my Saturday like this. I never included any of this in my plans so how did it get there?

 

“Who do I turn to?” I mumbled.

 

I can’t go to any of my friends either, they’ll just give me that bastards money and I don’t want it.

 

We don’t even have any valuable property to mortgage.

 

I kept thinking as I walked briskly on the road. Flashy cars zoomed passed me speedly.

 

I used the back of my hand to cover my face as the sun was too much to withstand.

 

I kept walking, my intention was to go to a bank, who knows they might agree to give me a loan.

 

“Hey Pearl!” I heard a shrill voice.

 

I turned and looked around, standing at the other side of the road was a lanky guy whose face was hidden by the rays of the sun.

 

I regretted ever turning when I saw the one who called after the sun shifted from his face.

 

Infamous Mike.

 

It’s better I leave because I won’t like adding headache to my already disturbed mind.

 

 

I left with hurried steps and as I passed a restaurant, I saw a family having a meal together.

 

They looked all happy with their daughter. Then their daughter gave something to the dad and turned around.

 

Her father smiled and puts a necklace around her neck.

 

I placed my hand on the necklace granny gave me.

 

Then a familiar blurry image flashed in my mind. I started feeling dizzy and didn’t know how I ended up in the middle of the road.

 

Cars started blowing their horns but my head was in a total frenzy that I didn’t hear a thing.

 

I tried to hold onto something but I didn’t get anything. I stumbled on something and landed face flat on the ground with my mouth kissing the tarred road.

 

I held my head as the pain became unbearable. Darkness consumed me finally.

 

I felt water being sprinkled on my face so I quickly jolted up.

 

“Are you alright Pearl?”

 

I looked up at the one who spoke, it was Mike.

 

Can’t he just leave me alone?

 

He tried helping me up but I got up on my own hastily when I remembered that I have only one hour.

 

“Thanks for your help but am absolutely fine.” My lips pulled up into a scowl when I saw that I had caused a whole traffic.

 

“Come, I’ll take you home.” He suggested.

 

 

“Excuse me, I have something to take care of urgently.” I said and brushed passed him.

 

I stopped walking when an idea popped.

 

Why didn’t I think of this all this while?

 

I brought my hand to my neck and held it with a smile when I felt the lockets.

 

I have less than an hour to get the money and there’s only one way and that’s Selling one of these necklaces.

 

This is the only option left for me.
