~~ MEGAN’S POV ~~

“Megan are you sure about what you’re saying? Are you certain that it’s not a misunderstanding?” Aunt Paula asked.

“Am sure aunt.” I stated.

“Where did you see it Megan?” Aunt asked.

“It was in a jewelry shop. And…”

“And stop it Megan. Seriously, you shouldn’t joke with somethings. You must’ve mistaken a similar necklace to Mariana’s.” Mum cut me off.

“No mum. Am really certain. It was the same necklace.”

“Take me there Megan. I want to confirm it myself. Who knows, we might get a clue.”

“Alright Aunt.” I accepted.

“Can we go now?”

“What!” Mum exclaimed.

“Huh? Now?” I was amazed.

“Yes Megan. I won’t rest until I’ve seen it myself.”

“Alright but we might get there late in the evening. It’s a 17hour flight.”

“I don’t care Megan. I’ve waited too long for this kind of news and now that I heard one, I won’t sit back.” She said and sent for her handbag.

“I will come with.”

We all turned to the deep baritone voice. It was uncle. He walked in and dropped his suitcase.

How come he’s home so early?

“No Pablo. You can’t..”

“I’ve decided Paula.” He said and held her hand.

“No one is going anywhere except Megan and I .” Dad also came in.

I love how my family is. Over the years, we’ve become really close and almost inseparable.

“But Daniel…” Uncle Pablo tried to say.

“Don’t worry Pablo. I will go with Megan and handle everything. I’ll also keep you updated. I just need a photo of the necklace and that’s all.”

“Have both of you been listening all this while?” Aunt asked with a playful glare

“I guess.” Dad replied.

“Son, shall we?” Dad asked.

“Yes dad.”

Mum came and hugged him then they shared a few kisses. “Good luck” she said and pecked him on the nose.

Dad nods, then we start to walk.

“Hang on!” Aunt said stopping us.

“Please take care and I pray everything goes well.”

“We will Anna Paula, so don’t worry. I got you.” Dad replied smilingly.

I used that opportunity and went for my aunt’s bag. She knew what I wanted so she let me. I searched through it and I found the box of the new iPhone.

Thank God Aunt always keep new phones in her bag for emergencies just like this.

I came back and we left. I hope we get something meaningful else, aunt might lose all hope in finding Mariana.

~~PEARL’S POV ~~

“Granny.” I called not able to believe what was in front of us.

“Our house.” I muttered but granny wasn’t listening.

He walked briskly towards the portion of land which ones had a little cottage on it but now bare. Not only that, the whole place was flooded by the sea. Our house was nowhere in sight.

But how was this possible? Our has was far from the beach a bit.

Is this a tsunami or what? No this can’t be a tsunami else this whole town would’ve been flooded.

It’s just a rise in sea level and our dune couldn’t withstand the strong tidal waves.

I looked on sadly at how the storm waves pound the beach vigorously.

I stepped in front in pursuit of granny and that was when I realized the puddle of water ahead.

I walked through the puddle of water which was covering my toes.

Amazing! There was not even a single item left. The sea must’ve carried it to another shore.

I looked up in the already dark sky when I heard a loud thunder and lightening then a strong wind blew. I shivered and wrapped an arm around myself as the night chills hit me.

Those around looked at us sadly and walked back to their homes.

I stood rooted to one spot without blinking as if in a trance forgetting that I was with someone. Granny.

Another loud thunder strikes shaking me awake.

This time around, I blink my eyes multiple times as the reality dawned on me.

I scanned the deserted area in search of granny.

I looked around before running around like a stranded mad person.

I called his name as ran around.

It was soon completely dark after a thorough search.

Where could he had gone. I had looked at the possible places he could be hiding but I still didn’t find him.

Soon, it started drizzling.

My heart began to beat erratically that I felt my blood pressure rising.

That’s it. I have no option than to dive into this sea right now since it’s the only place I haven’t searched.

I got to the mouth of the sea and gazed at the dangerous waves for awhile before walking further into it. The further I go, the deeper.

When the water was on my waist level, and I was about to dive in fully, I felt someone pull me out strongly.

“Who the heck are you? Fucking let go!” I yelled and pulled the person away with all my strength.

I staggered back slightly breathing heavily. And when I wasn’t expecting it, a strong wave hit me directly in the face filling my eyes with salt and sand knocking me down as well.

Why do I feel so weak? This sea never controls me but I do so what changed?

Just then, it started raining heavily. My clothe clung to me like a second skin and my hair was so damp.

The person managed to drag me out to shore. It’s seems the person is not as strong as I thought looking at how the person was panting like someone who just ran a marathon race.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing Pearl?.”

“No you tell me, who do you think you’re to disrupt what I was doing? How dare you.” I got up and made for the sea again.

I was pulled back again.

All this time I haven’t tried looking at the person’s face but one thing was for sure.

A female.

She really has some balls.

I pushed her back and ran into the sea but not deep this time.

“Granny!” I yelled as I walked from one point to another.

“Come with me Pearl. You’ll fall sick.”

So she followed me.

“It’s seems you’re just one jobless bitch aren’t you? But unfortunately am not. So let me be. I’ve got a life to safe.”

“And you think you’ll be successful in this weather? Can’t you see how the rain is pouring coupled with this dangerous tides?”

“I never mentioned that I was blind. I know what am doing. So please just leave me alone.”

“Stop all this Pearl. You have gone crazy that you couldn’t even recognize me. It’s me Pearl. Just look at me.” She shook my shoulders and I looked up.

I knew the voice was familiar. It was Aria.

“Listen Aria. I really have to save granny. I don’t know where he is and it’s raining so badly please. This is too much for him. He just had a surgery and now this.” I wailed as the rain blinded my vision.

“Calm down Pearl..”

“Don’t tell me that again. Don’t fu.cking tell me to calm got it? Now get out of my way!” I said with rage.

“Are you gonna stop all this and come with me?”

“Come with you? You have lost it! I don’t even know why am talking to you.” I turned to go.

“What if I say your granny is with me? Will you come with me then?”

I spined around facing her again.

“What did you just say?”

She nodded.”Toby is really waiting for you out there and here you’re, playing adamant.”

“Where? Take me to him quickly.”

She held my hand and we got out of the water.

We walked far from the shore towards a tree and behind it was granny, slumped on the ground.

“Granny?”

“Pearl.” He responded quietly.

I ran to him and hugged him.

For a moment, I thought I lost him.

I thought I lost my granny.

But why is he not moving anymore?

I tried to pull back but he was immovable.

I stiffed for a moment before pulling back and held him tightly.

His eyes were open. I let go and he almost fell. I quickly held him to my lap. What just happened? He was fine right?

With a look of horror, I stared at Aria. Then I checked his pulses.

I let go of his arms when I felt nothing.

“No. This can’t be. It’s not true.” I mumbled as my tears blended with the rain.

“Aria? What happened? Why is he not breathing anymore. When is he so quiet?” I asked and checked his heart beat.

She just shook her head and the tears started flowing down her cheeks uncontrollably.

“Aria? You’re here?” Betsy asked.

“Pearl.”

Betsy came running up to us.

“See, I brought a taxi. Let’s help granny up to the hospital.” She said.

“Why are you guys saying nothing? And you Aria, why are you crying?”

“It’s too late Betsy.” Aria said slowly.

“Thanks hat do you mean Aria?” She looked from me to Aria then granny.

“What?” What happened? He was okay a moment ago before I left him in Aria’s care for a taxi. Wake up granny.” She bend and shook granny but he didn’t budge .

“No. This isn’t true. Pearl tell me this is some sick joke.” Then she began to cry.

I looked up at the starless sky and screamed, “No oooo!”

Fresh tears flowed freely with high current almost causing an erosion on my face.
