Nadine’s POV

“Oh my gosh Jeremy!” I exclaimed, one hand over my mouth as I involuntarily .

Zoe closer to me.

“Nadine!” He muttered silently, his ears darting between Zoe and I as though to ask “What’s going on?”

I stared at him for a while until Zoe tugged on my skirt, bringing me back to reality.

“Mummy, this is him. This is the guy who saved me yesterday. Thank you Mister.” “Uh you’re welcome.” Jeremy replied.

I glared at him before kneeling to Zoe’s level.

“Zoe honey, can you please go to your room? I and this man have to talk.” “But Mom…” She tried arguing but I cut her off with a stern look.

“Okay fine… Thanks again Mister.” She said to Jeremy before heading to her room.

I watched her until she disappeared before turning my attention back to Jeremy.

“Aren’t you going to invite me in?”

“No! Bye Jeremy!” I replied, closing the door but he put in his feet in the way.

“What do you want Jeremy? Why can’t you just leave me the hell alone?”

“I’m sorry Nadine. I’m sorry for everything I did to you. I know I don’t deserve to live but can you just find it in your heart to forgive me please?”

“No Jeremy. I will never forgive you. I trusted you Jeremy but you used me and tossed me out when you were done. You’re a monster and you don’t deserve to live… Now listen to me and listen good. Don’t you dare step foot on my property again or I swear you’ll regret.”

“Okay okay, I’ll be going. Just tell me this one thing.”

“And what is that?”

“Is Zoe my child?”

I took a deep breath and replied him with a cold “NO!” before closing the door and locking it behind me.

I let go of the breath I didn’t know I’d been holding as I collapsed into the nearest sofa.

No one is going to be taking Zoe away from me and I’m going to make sure of it.

Jeremy’s POV

I slowly stepped away from the locked door and walked back to my car as all the memories of the past began flooding back.

How could I have been so stupid to have let Nadine go? It was obvious how much I’d hurt her due to her tone when she spoke to me. If only I could turn back the hands of time so none of this would have happened…maybe I wouldn’t be childless after 6 years of marriage, maybe I would still be with Nadine…

But alas! It’s impossible and I’m stuck with the choices that I’ve made. I guess

that’s life….

I got in my car and stuck the key into the ignition. It revved to life and I headed in

the direction of my home when something suddenly struck me…..

Nadine said Zoe wasn’t my daughter but Zoe couldn’t be anything less than six years old. Could it be that Nadine was lying and Zoe was really my child? If she was, then that would mean…..

“Hold up Jeremy! Don’t start jumping into conclusions yet” I cautioned myself.

Instead, I decided on another cause of action so I called the private investigator who’d gotten me Nadine’s address.

Hello Sir… He said once he picked up.

Yes hello. I would like you to get me everything known about Nadine, the woman I asked you to investigate.

Okay Sir.

Can you manage a sample of her daughter, Zoe’s DNA? Like a strand of her hair or something…

Of course Sir. That’ll mean an increase in the fee though.

I don’t care. Just have ready in the next 48 hours. Got that?

Of course Sir.

I cut the call immediately, a hopeful smile on my face. I pray this works out for me and Zoe turns out to be my daughter. That’ll be the best news I’ve ever had…… .
