Zoey’s Pov:
I clumped down the stairs into the sitting room with my bag, trying to fix my wrist watch as well.
I met him – my gem – kneeling in front of the table, working on his art book as usual.
He was putting on a black trouser and white singlet and looked so cute in it as he focused on his book.
“Good evening, mum” he greeted as I smiled and went to sit next to him.
“Good evening, love. How are you?” I replied, stroking his hair.
“I’m great” he smiled and resumed his work.
I peeped into the book and noticed it was a drawing of a bridge over an ocean – a big, beautiful one.
Wow!
“Working on an assignment?” I asked him, touching the back of his neck while staring into it.
“Yes – my teacher asked us to make any drawing of our choice and I chose this” he replied smartly.
“Hm. And why did you chose this?” I asked and he looked at me and laughed, not having a specific answer.
Funny.
“Mum, are you going out tonight?” He asked, looking at the bag beside me.
“Yes, dear. But I’ll be back in less than an hour. Just need to do something important” I replied.
“Okay,,mum. Just be careful, okay?” He said, sounding like an adult and I laughed.
“Of course, I will. remember, stay in doors, never open the door for anyone unless you’re sure it’s me. Don’t…”
“I know; I know; I know” he cut in, nodding his head repeatedly and making me laugh.
“You always tell me that. So, I think I’m familiar with it already. You’ve got nothing to worry about” he demonstrated with a punch in the air and I chuckled and kissed him.
“Take care of yourself, okay? You can take some fruits from the refrigerator if you’re hungry. Bye” I said as I stood up with my bag.
“Bye mum” he replied with his eyes in his book and I left the house.

I got to the road and boarded a cab, headed for my location.
Thank goodness the cab wasn’t filled up cause I really needed some quietness.
I kept staring through the window the whole time, enjoying the sight of the beautiful streets.
After a while, the cabby pulled over in front of my location and that was like a big relief to me cause I couldn’t wait to get this done and over with.
I paid the cabby and proceeded into the hotel building.
I brought out my phone from my bag and dialed his line and he picked up at the second beep.
Hey, angel” he called, making me cringe.
Um…hi. Just wanted to let you know I’ve arrived. I replied .
Oh! Where are you?”
I’m…close to the garden” I replied, looking around.
Okay. Stay right there. Someone will be coming to get you” he replied and ended the call.
I took in a deep breath and slipped the phone into my bag.
And not long after, a man in suit showed up.
“Hi. Are you Miss Zoey?” He asked and I nodded.
“Okay. Come with me, please. Mr Zach is waiting for you” he added and led the way while I followed.
We got into the reception, took an elevator and headed for a room.
“Hold on; is he in his room?” I asked when the thought dawned on me.
“Yes ma’am” he replied
What? That wasn’t our agreement.
Nevertheless, I still followed him and soon, we got to the supposed room as he stopped walking and knocked on the door.
It was opened immediately, revealing his smiling face.
“Zoey!” He called, sounding relieved.
I only let out a light smile and he quickly ushered me in.
“Please, take a seat” he said as I walked in.
“Good evening, Mr Zach. I thought we agreed to meet outside?” I asked.
“Oh, yes! I’m sorry but, I suddenly changed my mind” he replied with a shrug and I quietly took a seat, sitting on the only couch in the room.
He reached for a bottle of wine, pooped it open and decanted it into two glass cups. He handed one to me, took one for himself and sat on the bed in front of me.
“Thanks”, I muttered and sipped from mine.
“So, how was your day?” He asked, brimful of excitement.
“It was fine. Please, if you wouldn’t mind, I’d want us to hurry this up. My son is alone at home and I need to go meet him. Please” I said politely.
Although, I was in the need of his help and shouldn’t be telling him what to do, but Axel was more important to me.
“Oh – okay” he said huskily and drank from his glass again.
I had already kept mine on the table beside me.
“So…you need a job, right?” He asked.
“Yes, sir.” I replied.
“What are your qualifications and experience?” He asked and I flinched, recalling I was just a high school leaver.
“Um…I…I’m just a secondary school leaver but…I’ve worked with a business firm before. That was the previous job i did” I replied nervously and he nodded and drank from his glass again.
“Well, I can make you my secretary which would involve a huge pay” he said, making my heart leap.
Oh my God!
Yes. Yes. Please.
“But…” He suddenly added and I flinched.
Oh God!
But what?
I stared at him curiously and he smiled.
“Don’t worry about it. You can resume work tomorrow morning” he said and my heart leapt for joy.
“Oh, my! Are you serious??” I asked in excitement and he nodded.
Although, I was tempted to ask him what the “but” was, but decided to wave it aside.
“Oh, God! Thank you so much, sir! Thank you! I really appreciate. Thank you so much” I kept thanking him repeatedly.
You really don’t know what this job means to me.
“You’re welcome, Zoey. Its nothing”. He replied warmly and stood up with me.
“So, by 8 a.m. you should be at the office and everything you’ll be needing will be provided for you” he further said.
“Okay, sure. I really appreciate. Thanks”.
I took my bag as he made to open the door for me.
“I’d have loved to drop you off, but…”
“No, no. Its fine. Please. Thank you sir” I beamed and he chuckled and escorted me out.
He followed me to the reception before turning back after saying a “goodnight” to me while I thanked him once more.
Oh God! I couldn’t explain the joy I felt.
I walked happily to the roadside and boarded a cab home.
Finally, I have a job again. I can have enough money to take care of Axel. The last job I had – I was framed for something I didn’t do and got fired. And for the last few months, I had to go through alot in taking care of my son.
I’ve used up my entire savings and was at the verge of going into debts, but
thank goodness this job came along.

I rushed into the house but couldn’t find Axel in the sitting room.
I took the stairs to his room and met him fast asleep on the bed.
Awwn. He’s sleeping already.
I felt q big relief staring into his face and I threw my bag on the floor and sat on the edge of the bed, stroking his hair gently.
My jewel.
He looked so cute as he slept.
His long baby lashes resting on his eyes.
His tiny pink lips a little open.
Everything about him was so perfect that I felt he was the most handsome kid in the world.
Indeed, he took over Zosar in terms of good looks.
Zosar…
The thought of the name alone melted my heart.
Its been five years now since I returned to America and there’s been no word from him.
He never came searching for me that I wonder if he was already enjoying his marriage with Rana that much.
But…a little check up would’ve been okay, right?
I mean, doesn’t he wanna see his son?
A tear escaped my eye as all the memories came flashing back.
I wonder how’s he doing. And wherever he is, I hope he’s fine and happy.
Well, as for me, Axel has been the source of my happiness – my only reason for living; a blessing I cherish.
He reminds me so much of his father and all the memories we shared which in most cases, brings tears to my eyes.
I love him so much and I’m ready to work hard enough to provide him with the best life he needs.
As for my mother, I didn’t bother going to her as soon as I returned.
Well, I don’t even want to see her.
I have my son now and that’s all that matters.
