I Will Wait – Episode 27
_27_
We have to express ourselves, we have that ability to do so but mostly life happens. We get one situation after the other and one challenge after another and it just knocks the wind out of us and every now and then we need someone to carry a breath of fresh air, and when we talk about carrying a breath of fresh air we are talking about someone who has our best interests at heart. Someone whose intentions for us are totally pure, someone who can put our life back in order. Sometimes we go through life; and our lives are misaligned. We have a sense that will tell us that something is wrong but we may not always articulate what is wrong but we can feel that something isn’t working right. We no longer feel ourselves or know who we are, the average person begins to look outside of themselves. Looking for a means that they can find out what is going on and sometimes looking for solutions but what we miss out is that we need ourselves to make the world around us accept us.
Have you ever had the occasion to meet a person who was the breath of fresh air, have you ever had the wind knocked out of you. Where you had a lot of problems but then they just got knocked out of you.
He slowly moved his lips from hers, trailing his finger on each part of her face. Then he planted small kisses from her chin, to her lips, then her nose and lastly her forehead as a sign that he would always respect her. Forgetting where they were, he pulled her close and held her making her feel light, like everything that was wrong in her life was beginning to be lifted off her shoulders. She had never met anyone who had that capability of bringing back light into the dark.
‘Tell me you don’t want to have this forever, tell me you don’t feel the same way.’ He said to her
She was afraid to speak, afraid that her voice would fail her but then she just pressed her upper body hard on his chest. Hearing each beat that his heart made, his scent engulfing her nostrils and making her feel things that she didn’t know she could feel.
‘We need to get back.’ She said quickly pulling away
He could have protested because that moment right there felt like it was all and more he could ask for but he knew better.
‘After you.’
They walked back passed the Chainama blocks and back to Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital, they didn’t realize how far they had gone until they got back to the ward. Her mother was crying when they got there, the sight of her broke her to pieces afraid that maybe something was wrong.
‘Yolanta.’ Her mother said opening her arms
The young lady went to where her mother was and immediately led her to a chair. ‘Talk to me.’
‘Just when I thought we had lost him, just when I had started depending on my inner strength; the Lord showed me that he still wears the victor’s crown.’
The young lady knew exactly what her mother was saying, she immediately got on her knees and lifted her hands. She had not said a single prayer since she heard the news now how was she going to face her creator.
‘Lord thank you.’ Is all she said
Cornelius was watching from a distance, he had not shed a tear in a long time but the sight of the two ladies made him break down. The passing nurses found it cute but at that moment he knew his life would never be the same again.
‘I saw you with my daughter.’ A voice told him
He didn’t need to turn around to see who was there, he knew exactly who it was. ‘You have no shame.’ He said without even turning around
‘I don’t know who you are but I saw that you are quite close to her.’ ‘More than you can imagine.’
She kept quiet, her sneezing sold her off.
He clicked his tongue realizing they might as well be crocodile tears. ‘After twenty five years, really?’ he asked ‘I am dying.’ She said
‘Just as I thought, after living your life in glamour and splendor now you don’t want to die alone?’
‘How cliché.’ He had continued
‘You have no idea what I have been through.’
‘Delight me, I am all ears.’ He said with sarcasm
Back at the house Wane was happy to hear that her father was awake and possibly out of danger, Kendra had been a great pillar of strength and Uncle Kaluba had not left her side too.
‘Babe your Uncle is a hottie.’ Kendra said starring at the older man who was grown up enough to be their father
‘I have had to live with that crush all my life.’ She said standing up to get them some lemonade
She walked to the kitchen and her Uncle came behind her making sure to close the door, Kendra didn’t see anything wrong with this as she switched on the television immediately switching to Zambezi magic where my perfect wedding Zambia was showing.
‘I didn’t hear you.’ Wane said
‘I am glad your father is awake.’ He said
‘Me too.’
‘So how is your girlfriend?’ she asked when the silence became unbearable ‘Well she left me for a younger man.’
‘That is sad, she doesn’t know what she is missing.’ ‘Really?’
Wane realized it wasn’t a good idea to say what she had said but it was already hanging in the air.
‘Sorry.’ She apologized turning to the fridge ‘No sorry.’ He said
‘For?’ she asked not even turning to face him ‘This.’ He said as he moved forward behind her
He stood just a few inches to her, his breathing sending chills down her spine. ‘Don’t.’ she whispered not trusting her voice
She had liked her Uncle since childhood and had many fantasies about him but not once did she imagine that they would be this close.
‘Tell me to stop.’ He said caressing her hips
She couldn’t say a word but then leaned in until his head was just above hers. He slowly moved them to her tummy, making small circles on her belly button.
‘I can’t do this.’ He said moving away from her
She wanted to say something but he was already out of the room, minutes later she heard car wheels and the sound of the gate closing. She went to the living room with her emotions still scattered, there she met Cornell who was dashingly smart. ‘Lord don’t this to me.’ She whispered as he moved closer to hug her
