Zosar’s Pov:

 

All I felt was…her” the chief cook replied fearfully and pointed to one of the maids behind me and I turned to see her shaking on the spot

 

“You poisoned her meal?” I asked the young maid as she shook in fear.

 

“You tried to harm my child?”

 

“My…My prince; I don’t know what you’re talking about. I swear on my mother’s grave, I didn’t poison anyone” she gibbered and I gave her a stingy slap that brought her to the floor.

 

“you shameless bitch!” I snarled.

 

“How dare you? Who the hell sent me you to harm my baby? Huh? Who???”

 

“My prince”, she whimpered.

 

“I didn’t poison her – I swear. All I did was serve the meal and take it to her directly. I didn’t poison her, I swear! Please, believe me”.

 

“Guards!!” I called and three guards rushed in.

 

“Take her away and have her locked up”.

 

“Yes, my prince” they bowed and dragged her away.

Naunet’s Pov:

 

“Mother! What are we going to do?” I asked worriedly as I stood in front of her in the garden.

 

“What do you mean *what’re we going to do* Naunet? What kind of a question is that? What else are we to do?” She replied rashly.

 

“Really?” I scoffed.

 

 

“Someone else is being locked up and tortured for something I did and you’re trying to act like nothing happened? It isn’t fair, mother! I poisoned the meal and a different maid doesn’t deserve to get punished for it”.

 

“So, what do you want to do, huh?” She snapped at me.

 

“Oh! You want to go to the prince and tell him: *my prince, I have a confession to make. I was actually the one who tried to kill your baby. So, please punish me*.

 

“Really? Are you that dumb? Haven’t you learnt anything from me?” She asked and pushed my head.

 

“I’ve told you this countlessly, Naunet. Learn to use your head, and not your heart! Learn!!”

 

And with that, she walked away, leaving in me in complete confusion.

 

Oh, goodness! What do I do? Will I really stand by and watch someone else being tortured for my sins?

 

I placed my hands on my waist and sighed tiredly. I felt so confused and bittered. I didn’t even know what to think anymore. And why the hell did the poison fail? Huh? Now, all these was for nothing.

 

Suddenly, I had a crazy urge to puke and I found myself running to a safe corner and throwing up.

 

I coughed and spat out as I emptied my mouth

 

Huh? Why the hell am I throwing up now?

Zoey’s Pov:

 

I sat next to Zosar as he fed me himself on the bed. I was still at the healer’s place and according to her, I was in perfect health and good to go.

 

But I couldn’t help but feel a little worried. What happened to me? I mean, why would someone try to poison me? Is it because it’s the prince’s child?

 

 

But, shouldn’t they love the child since it belongs to their so called crowned prince? Why on earth are they trying to harm it?

 

“Is there something else you need?” Zosar asked and I turned to look at him.

 

“No…thanks” I said calmly and lowered my gaze to the floor.

 

He took in a spoonful of the stew and brought it closer to my lips and I collected it

 

“Zoey…” He called after a while.

 

“I’m really sorry for what happened – I mean for the fact that someone tried to poison you. I…don’t want you in anyway to think your life is danger. From now on, I promise to protect you and the baby.

 

“Before you eat, every single meal will be tasted by someone. I’ll have two guards posted outside your door day and night and before anyone comes into your room, he or she will be thoroughly searched. I promise you, Zoey. You’ll be fine” he said in a reassuring tone, litting my hope.

 

I just sighed and nodded, being blenched.

 

Will I really be protected? What if someone tries to harm me again? What if they kill me in the process?

 

Oh God!

 

Perhaps, if I had listen to mum and hadn’t gone for the party that night, none of these would’ve happened. I’d still be a happy teenage girl with so many dreams.

 

But now, here I am…

 

Almost immediately, the door opened and the healer walked in.

 

She was one pretty old woman. Although, she was old, it didn’t affect her skills.

 

“My dear” she smiled at me as she came close and stood in front of me.

 

She placed her hand on my face and strained my eyes open

 

“How’re you feeling now?” She asked when she was done.

 

“I’m fine,ma’am. Thanks” I said with a shrug and she smiled again

 

“Hapita, are you sure the baby’s fine?” Zosar asked, patently perturbed.

 

“Yes, of course. If there was a problem, I’d have told you about it.

 

“Well, actually, there is a little problem” she said and my eyes dimmed.

 

Oh God!

 

“What is it?” Zosar asked immediately, curiosity resounding in his voice.

 

“It’s actually about her – this time around” the woman replied and looked at me.

 

“You’re still a virgin, right?” She asked and I nodded.

 

Hold on; why’s she asking.

 

“And that’s the problem, dear. Under normal circumstances, you can’t be a virgin and be pregnant. But…looking at the conditions around you, its understandable that the baby was transferred to you magically.

 

“And…that’s where the problem lies. My dear, you can’t give birth when you’re still a virgin cause its going to be awfully and unimaginable painful. I don’t even know if such thing is possible because I’ve never seen someone with your condition – being a pregnant virgin.

 

I mean, the hymen hasn’t even broken yet. To anyone, it may sound like a fairytale.

 

“To cut the long story short, what I’m trying to say is – you can’t give birth while you’re still a virgin. You need to have s*x with someone”. She released the bombshell.
