Anna Paula’s POV
I bit down on my bottom lip nervously and looked over at the clock.
It was half past nine. Three hours have passed since Pablo should have been home.
I stood up from my seat and started fiddling with fingers, staring out the window every few seconds.
Where is he? I thought as i listened for the sound of a car driving in. He has never been home this late before. He didn’t even call. And today of all days?
I knew that i sounded like a clingy wife right now but i couldn’t help but worry for my husband’s safety.
He was never one to come home late but yet, and not when we have a little baby.
I looked at her and she was sleeping peacefully.
I took my phone off the table and stared at the screen.

A small groan escaped my lips I stared at the window, as if he was going to magically appear right before me.
I got out from Mariana’s room and went to the parlor.
I was getting restless by each second.
I sat down on the couch again and turned on the T.V. hoping that it would keep my mind occupied.
The sounds coming from the T.V. did nothing to cease my worry.
I just felt my heart beating faster and faster as the seconds passed.
I breathed in slowly to calm down my breathing knowing that being stressed out wasn’t going to help out this situation one bit.
I closed my eyes and dreamed about my baby.
I can’t wait to hear her first word, first step, first birthday.
I thought of all the happy memories that i and Pablo would make with our beautiful baby.
How Pablo and I would teach Mariana to ride a bike for the first time, how we would teach her various sports to teaching them how to clean and cook.
I shouldn’t be thinking this far ahead but I couldn’t help but imagined Mariana and the other babies that will be coming graduation and their prom night.
How Pablo would stare down at our daughter’s date and how i would fuss over my son’s tux if I had one.
I thought of how Pablo and i will sit in the porch and watch our grand kids playing in the sand.
I chuckled at the thought.
But that’s how I want our happy ending should be like.
A sound of screeching tires snapped me out of my thought and I moved the curtains to look out the window again.
A huge grin made its way to my face when I saw that it was my husband’s Audi. I squealed lightly and opened the door up, waiting for him to reach the steps.
As he came closer to the light, I frowned when i didn’t see the happy-go going smile that was usually plastered on his face no matter how rough the day was.
As he came to me, I leaned in to kiss him but met his cheek instead.
Thinking nothing of it, i took his blazer and hung it up. Turning around, i almost bumped into him.
I looked at me and he was staring at me with the coldest look ever.
“Pablo? Are you feeling okay?” I asked worriedly, putting my hand to his forehead. “Was that why you couldn’t make it to the hospital?” I just knew it, I knew something happened because you will never leave me in times like that…”
He looked at me and took my hand, pushing it away from him. It was gentle but at the same time, had an underlined roughness to it. I felt hurt when he did that but i quickly covered it up and sent him a smile.
“I have some news for you,” I said, smiling brighter.
“I have news for you too Anna Paula,” Pablo’s business-like voice rang through my ears and I frowned. He have never used that voice on me before.
“Well, why don’t we get inside I want to show you our—”
“I want a divorce.” He stated calmly, looking straight in to my eyes.
My eyes widened and i felt my heart beating against my chest rapidly. “What? Pablo what did you just say?”
“Did I stutter? I want a divorce Paula.” He repeated again.
As soon as those words came out of his mouth, I knew that my life would never be
the same ever again.
.
I felt my whole world crashing down when he said that. My heart felt like it was going to break into a million pieces and I could feel my head becoming lighter.
My eyes burned with unshed tears and my hands shook.
I backed into the wall and placed my palm on it, praying that that was enough to hold her up.
“Pablo. What do you mean? W-why would you want a divorce?”
“I don’t want to live with you anymore.” He said coldly. “You’re nothing to me.” His cold and piercing grey eyes stared deep into mine.
I let the tears fall.
He doesn’t want to live with me anymore?
“I don’t understand. Pablo, our baby.” I said softly.
“She can’t live in separate homes.
Whatever I did wrong, please tell me so that I can fix it. Our baby need both of her parents.”
He raised an eyebrow up at me.
“Baby? What do you mean by baby? You don’t mean?” he asked coldly and came to look at my stomach.
nodded my head and grabbed his hand and led him to Mariana’s room. “Yes, Pablo we had a baby girl just as you wanted.”
He gave me a cold look and roughly took his hand away. “Don’t touch me.” He hissed out and turn back.
I whimpered and backed up against the wall again.
He glared at me and took off his tie.
“As for her, you don’t have to worry. I’ll sign away my rights. I don’t even know if she’s truly mine or not.” He said before walking away.
“Pablo wait! I don’t know what’s going on! What brought this upon you?!”
I shouted after him with my tears falling down excessively.
He paused for a second in his step. “I think you know exactly what I mean.”
He said coldly again but there was no mistaking the crack that was in his voice. “I trusted you.” He said softly before leaving the house, slamming the door behind him as he left.
My knees buckled down from beneath me and i fell down. Loud sobs escaped from my mouth as my tears fell down one after the other.
I buried my head into my hands and screamed loudly. I felt nothing but pain in my heart as it broke into tiny pieces.
“What did I do wrong?” I asked myself out loud.
I hurried up to Mariana’s room and slumped down beside her.
My hands reached out and touched her sleeping face. My heart broke even more if that was even possible knowing that there was a strong possibility that she won’t even have a father.
I pushed myself up from the ground and winced in pain. Wiping tears, i told myself to calm down. Hiccups left my mouth and I let out a few more tears.
A ring of the phone got my attention. I took the phone from the bedside and wiped away my tears.
Without seeing who it was, I picked it up and answered it. “Hello?” I tried to hide any evidence in my voice that I was crying.
“Paula? Sweetheart?” the voice of my best friend spoke up. “Are you okay? You sound like you were crying.”
I felt myself tearing up again as i heard the words.
I just hate that phrase, ‘are you okay’
“Amy,” my voice cracked and I clutched the phone tightly. My eyes closed and tears continued to fall down.
The tears were endless and relentless. No matter how much I want to stop , I couldn’t.
“Anna what happened? Is Pablo back? And my little angel, is she fine?” Amy
asked me in a worried tone.
“Did he see her?”
“I told him” I said quietly, “but.”
“But what? What happened?” Amy pressed on.
I wiped away my tears and took a deep breath. “Amy, he wants a divorce.”
There was a long pause at the other end. It was silent for about five minutes before Amy spoke up again.
“A divorce? On what basis?”
“I don’t know Amy”.
“This is ridiculous!
“What are you going to do sweetheart?”
I opened my eyes and stared at our wedding picture. I remembered when he brought it to Mariana’s room and fixed it himself.
I clutched the bed sheets tightly as I knew what I would say next would impact
my future for the rest of my life. “What is there to do Amy? I’m going to give it to
him.

I woke up the next morning with pounding headache and a cry of a baby. Oh shit! I rushed to her side and picked her up. “My little angel is hungry”.
She was in the arms of the nanny we hired before i gave birth. She was trying to calm her down.
“You’re here.” I said and took my crying princess.
“Yes ma’am. I came early this morning when I heard you have given birth.”
“Thank you”. I said and
I freed my breast and feed her.
She sucked on it quietly.
“Excuse me”. She said and stepped outside.
I stared at her room, it was decorated colourfully.
I tucked her back to sleep after she slept.
I walked over to our room.
I looked over to Pablo’s side of the bed and frowned when I didn’t see him laying there like he usually does.
Looking at the time, I frowned when i saw just how early it was.
He was never up this early. And if he was, he would always wait for me to wake up before doing anything else.
So where was he?
walked into the bathroom. Looking into the mirror, I cringed when i saw her red blood shot eyes and dark circles.
How did that happen?
Sighing, i started washing my face. Taking my toothbrush, I started brushing my teeth.
When I was done, I patted my face dry and walked into my closet. I put on some of Pablo’s sweats and one his t-shirts before walking down to the kitchen. “Pablo?” I shouted out.
When I got no reply, I frowned and walked into the kitchen.
When i didn’t see him, I felt worry stirring in the pit of my stomach. I sat down on the table and grabbed the home phone.
I quickly dialed his number and waited for him to pick up.
When it went straight to voice-mail, i decided to call his mum. But it also went to voicemail.i frowned and placed the phone on the table.
Putting my head into my hands, i prayed that wherever he and his mum is, they will be safe.
When I removed my hands, I saw a white envelope sticking up from where the napkins were supposed to be.
Curiosity took over me and i took the envelope.
I grabbed the contents that was inside and i felt my whole body froze.
Legal Separation of Marriage.
The memories of last night flooded my brain and I felt the tears falling down again.
My vision blurred and my hands shook as i read through the divorce papers.
I put my fist on my mouth to muffle my sobs. He had done everything.
Had signed everything.
The only thing that was left was my signature on both the divorce papers and the custody.
I snapped my eyes shut and prayed that this was just a dream.
I pinched myself and cried even more when I realized that this wasn’t a dream.
This was reality.
I looked to the side and saw a pen next to the napkin holder.
My hands reached out and took it.
I looked down at the papers again and did the only thing that i could do right at that moment.
I signed the papers.
