Love Affairs – Episode 36
Episode 36
.
Lucia got in and slammed the door, “Just follow that car,” She pointed at the black toyota four cars ahead, “and maintain a reasonable distance but don’t lose sight.” She was breathing heavily and the driver could hear her heartbeat.
The driver glanced at her in the rear-view mirror, “Is everything alright?”
She managed to smile, “Yes.” She smiled again, “He has something that belongs to me,” fighting to breathe normal, she said, “and I’m getting it back.”
The driver half believed her. He thought for a moment for a decision to make and later concluded he was obeying her for it was only her money he wanted. He didn’t give a damn about whatever she was up to. Whatever she was up to was left for the lady, the man in the Camry and the cops. “Can you afford the fare?” He asked, his eyes still on the mirror.
Lucia bent forward that he could smell the fragrance of her perfume, “Whatever.” The driver smiled, “Alright,” and he concentrated on the Camry. He kept following it until Reagan drove past a brothel, drove few miles up and turned into a storey building apartment. When the driver was some miles to the brothel, Lucia said, “Pull over, now.” Her voice was impatient. The driver turned to her, returned his eyes to the windscreen and pulled over. Lucia got out even before the car came to full standstill. She hastily unzipped her handbag, counted some notes and gave the driver, “I’ll be back in few minutes.” She hurried to the raunchy apartment. She stopped in front of the gate and peeped through the hole on the gate. The palms and hibiscus that surrounded the apartment constituted an obstacle to her but she strained her eyes and eventually, everything became
visible. That instant, Reagan was carrying Stella from the boot into the apartment. She stood transfixed and noiseless, trying to make out something from what she was seeing. After some minutes, she squinted to be sure of whom the man was carrying until she became certain her eyes weren’t deceiving her. It was the late president’s daughter. What’s happening? She thought. She had earlier presumed the lady was already dead until she saw her legs shake and she knew immediately she was still alive. She turned quickly and started back to the taxi, her heart hammering violently. You can also read some interesting stories from www.generalloaded.com
She was distracted by a young man who mistook her for a woe from the brothel but she took care of him. When she reached the taxi, she got in and told the driver, “Optimus Hotel.” The driver nodded and sent the car moving. On the way, she saw
some vendors at a corner and asked the driver to stop over. She perused the headlines, paid for the papers with smiles and squeezed them into her handbag. She walked into a store by the roadside, picked a handset and paid for it. She headed back to the taxi, entered and the driver zoomed off. She removed the papers from her bag, stared smilingly at the headlines of each of them for some minutes, took out her diary, located a phone number of a friend she had in the presidential villa and called him, “It’s Lucia.” She paused and laughed, “Sorry, I lost my phone and couldn’t reach you for some time now. It has really been a long time and I missed you all this while.” She kept silence and then said, “Ok, I promise to make out time within the week for dinner in your apartment.” She chuckled, “Definitely.” She listened, “Can you do me a favour?”
Silence, “I need Thelda Bruno’s phone number.” She paused again and said, “It’s very urgent.” She paused for a while, “Oh, that’s very nice of you.” She took out a biro from her bag and quickly scribbled down a number in her diary, “Thank you very much. I’ll definitely reciprocate this kind gesture.” She smiled and said, “I love you and honestly can’t wait to be once more in your lovely arms.” And she hung up.
There won’t be the need to leave the country anymore. She thought with smiles and told the driver to increase the speed. LOVE AFFAIRS
