“…with your beam,
You led the way
And found me love I thought was
Hear to say
Then you went and took
My love away
You mean Ol’ moon”
I stared at the blank space on the ceiling as I sung to one of the songs I always play every night to help me fall asleep faster. Ever since Rachel and I watched Ted 2 a couple of months ago, I fell in love with the song the moment Amanda Seyfried picked up the guitar and started singing (plus the weed farm was totally slayin’ the moment).
Somehow, I couldn’t sleep. I found myself wide awake at 5:00 in the morning and it felt utterly unusual. Usually if I wake up at times like this, I’d end up falling back to sleep. I tossed and turned and did everything to hit the hay! I counted a herd of sheep in my head and even daydreamed of how hot Channing Tatum is but still, it didn’t work!
I groggily sat up and rubbed my throbbing head. I looked around and took into account my surroundings. I was in a small room that was painted in plain white with one window, a single bed, a bedside table with a lampshade on top, a worn-out cabinet and an old wooden door that I assume is the access to the bathroom. All in all, it looked boring and lifeless.
I cleared my throat and regretted the moment I did. I grimaced every time I swallowed the lumps on my throat; it hurt just swallowing my saliva as if cuts existed in the walls of my throat. It was burning and my neck hurt. Scenes from yesterday flashed through my mind. I closed my eyes and heave out a sigh. I could still feel Adrian’s hands around my neck and it pained me.
I never knew a wolf was capable of hurting his or her mate. I’ve always viewed mates like Rachel and Hunter’s bond. They were a perfect couple and I envied them. Rachel never mentioned to me, not even once, about Hunter making her cry. In fact, she was the one who made him cry when Rachel almost gave up on their relationship. And the irony of me, just met my mate, was almost killed.
Deciding it was best to freshen up, I stood up and drag myself towards the bathroom. I looked at my reflection on the small wall mirror that had a few white stains visible; I looked horrible. With my hair sticking up all over my face and my eyes red and puffy, I was a disaster. Not to mention, a red mark was visible around my neck and it was obvious that an immense pressure was applied onto it. I winced
in pain when I attempted to touch it; it still hurt. This is surely going to leave a mark (and a memory).
I washed my face on the sink to lessen the haggardness I am looking. Patting my face with a dry towel that was hanging at the side, I hummed to One Last Cry by Brian McKnight. Sighing, I placed both of my hands on the sink and spared a few minutes just stared at myself.
“What did you get yourself into, Sapphire?” I asked myself.
My wolf was laying down, devastation and sadness evident on her face. Tears were on her eyes and her ears were down; she was as disastrous as I am. I sighed. A part of me was blaming the Moon Goddess for pairing me with an asshole of an alpha (Ha! That actually sounded good!). But I knew, the blame should be taken on me. I should’ve rejected him when I had the chance, then we would’ve avoided the situation.
‘Then, both of us would’ve been dead if you did that’ my wolf countered.
“Do we have a choice, then? No. You know how cruel that man is. He doesn’t have a heart. And I doubt he even has feelings,”
‘Sapphire! You may not know him but I perfectly know his wolf. He is the total opposite of him— he’s kind. And he loves the both of us, dearly. I know Adrian has a soft heart somewhere in that cold ticker of his. You just have to give him some time’
“Give him time? Oh, sue me. He almost ended our time,” I scoffed.
‘Hate him all you want. Just don’t do anything that would kill the both of us and him,’ and with that, she retreated to the back of my mind. “Damn it,” I muttered as I slam my hands on the sink; making an
echo-ey sound throughout the small room.
*Knock Knock*
My head snapped to the side as I heard the door knock. My brows furrowed in confusion; thousands of scenarios running through my thoughts. Should I go and open the door? What if it’s Adrian? Is he going to kill me for real this time? Anxiety filled me as I neared the front door. My wolf sensed the uneasiness I’m feeling and readied herself just in case. I took a deep breath before holding the doorknob. Well, here goes nothing. I opened the door to see… no one.
I groaned. Is this some kind of prank? Because it’s not funny at all. Here I was, almost had a heart attack due to severe anxiety but then, it was just a joke. To say that I’m mad is an understatement— I was furious. I was about to close the door when a foot appeared out of nowhere, stopping me from slamming the door.
“Goodness,” I cried. That scared the shit out of me. I opened the door and saw a beautiful girl standing before me. She had ginger-colored hair that was styled into a bob cut. Her eyes were a shade of deep blue and freckles sat on the apples of her cheek. She was as tall as me but her physique was more toned than mine.Kindly share out stories from generalloaded.com using the floating social media icon buttons on the bottom of the screen
“Hi. I hope you’re hungry. I brought you some food,” she chirped. That’s when I realized that I haven’t eaten breakfast yet. The aroma of a freshly baked sourdough bread filled with clam chowder travelled to my nose making my stomach growl in hunger. Scratch that— the word hunger does not fit my situation; I was starving! “Uhhhhh…” I stammered, not knowing what to say. Should I let her in? What if Adrian ordered her to kill me instead? What if she’s hiding a pocket knife and use the power of food to distract me then kill me? I bit my lip trying to come up with a solution. I should not let the temptation of food get in my thoughts. Although a spoon wouldn’t hurt— I need to focus!
“If you’re thinking that I’m going to kill you, no. That is not the job for me to do. I’d be long dead even before you if I did that. Alpha Adrian sent me to bring you some food. Don’t worry, my intentions are pure,” she said as she showed me the tray with a variety of food on top. I guessed it right! Sourdough bread filled with clam chowder and a glass of water placed at the side. Thank goodness it’s not rice and red beans again.
Enlighten me why am I good with things related to food?
I opened the door wider and let her in. She placed the tray on the bedside table and turned to me. Her deep blue eyes boring into mine; that’s when I noticed a small crescent-shaped scar on her forehead. Unlike any other scar, this one was beautiful. Call me absurd but it was as if this scar held thousands of mysteries.
“Got it when I was eight. I ran away after my parent’s told me that they were separating. I went into the woods, tripped and voila! This scar was born,” she cracked a laugh but bitterness was evident in her voice. I could see the pain in her eyes but she quickly turned her back on me.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to stare at it. And I’m deeply sorry for what happened to your family,” I said, sincerely. I perfectly know how she feels. Although the only difference between us is that my parents were killed while her parents chose to drift apart.

“It’s alright. I’m used to getting a lot of ‘ judgmental’ stares,”
I shook my head in disagreement, “I think your scar is beautiful…”
“How rude of me to not introduce myself. I’m Alice. Alice Brand. Leader of the female warriors in Dark Monarchy. It’s a pleasure to meet you Luna,” she said regally with a bow.
“You don’t have to do that, Alice. And please, just call me Sapphire. Being called a Luna is the last thing I want,” I said with a sigh. Especially when that Adrian is the Alpha.
“Sooner or later, you’d get to know Alpha. He’s not as terrible as he seems. Just give him a little time to adjust. He’s really bad at socializing, just so you know,” What is it with people telling me to give him time? It’s surely getting on my nerves. I’
ll give him the time he wants… after I reject him.
A low growl echoed throughout my mind and I knew it was my wolf’s. I shook my head as I walked over to the table and sat on the stool. I started eating while Alice started telling me random stories from Adrian, to the pack, to the slut she hates and eventually led us to how Adrian is fond with kids.
“He does?” I asked, disbelief written all over my face. Wow, that was a bombshell. I can’t imagine him holding a baby or comforting a crying girl that was pushed by a bully. If the time comes when pigs can finally fly, I’ll lay my cards on the table.
“He’s an only child. You know, growing up with no one to fight with over xbox or in need of an ally when you have to lie to your mother to go out with friends; he practically grew up with old people surrounding him,” she cracked a chuckle and shook her head, “‘ No one deserves to be alone’ he’d always say. He was a lone wolf until this rogue boy came along and kicked him on the shin and since then, they became best buddies…well, more like brothers,” she smiled.
“Oh,” was all I could say. No wonder he thinks maturely. A part of me felt pity towards him when she said that he used to be a lone wolf. He must’ve gone through a lot growing up with people expecting him to be the best warrior, the perfect Alpha rather.
Get a grip of yourself, Sapphire. You should not be feeling this way towards him.
“How long was I asleep?” I asked as I drank the glass of water, finishing my meal.
Three words: It was delicious! (Though I say delicious to every food I eat). “Two days. We had Dr. Marshall to do a check-up on you and he said that you were just feeling over fatigue,” she replied. My eyes widened in amusement. I was
asleep for 48 hours? I think I just broke my record for sleeping for 30 hours (I had a really high fever at that time).
“Anyways, seeing that you’re eating well; you’re all good now. By the way, Alpha said that you’re allowed to go out once you’re awake,” it took me a few minutes before I finally processed what she just said. Finally, freedom!
“I also bought you some clothes and a few toiletries. Feel free to ask me if you have anything else that you need. I better get going now, I still have a load work of things to do,” she soothe her white tunic top and stood up.
“It was a pleasure meeting you, Alice. It was nice to have someone to talk to after being locked up in this foreign place for days,” I said, a genuine smile plastered on my face.
“The pleasure’s all mine, Sapphire. It was also nice to meet you. Alpha is one hell of a lucky man to have a mate like you. You’re going to be a great Luna someday, Sapphire.” She said as she gave me a sweet smile in return. I stood up and followed her to the door.
“See you around,” she bid one last goodbye and left. I let out a huff and laid down on the bed. It was a relief that she didn’t question about the redness of my neck. Most likely, she knew about it beforehand or she just chose to not ask me about it. I sat up upon remembering that I can finally go out. I smiled to myself and walked towards the bathroom; stripping on my way. I turned on the shower heater and waited for a few minutes before I stepped inside. The warm water running down my skin made me moan; it feels good. After completing my routine, I grabbed a towel and wrapped it around my body and walked towards the cabinet.
Scanning through the articles of my clothing, I decided to put on some black ripped jeans and a plain white tank top; finishing off with a burgundy scarf. I combed my long brown hair and slipped on my maroon doll shoes. Finally satisfied with my appearance, I took a deep breath before opening the door. A long hallway greeted me as I stepped out of the room.
The walls were painted in dark beige and the floors were wooden. A variety of picture frames and paintings were hung on the wall and lights were placed all over the ceiling. A mini living room was settled at my right side with an L-shaped sofa, a LED TV and a few gaming consoles.
The place was lovely with a touch of modern and vintage. I
t was utterly beautiful. The place was a dorm-like set with rooms lining up along the hallway. I assume that this is their pack house. I walked along with a few
people staring down at me as if I had some kind of a deadly disease. Staring down at my feet in embarrassment, I continued walking to who knows where. “Who is she?”
“What is she doing here?”
“Does Alpha know about this?”
“Is she Alpha’s new girlfriend?”
A slight pain struck my heart upon hearing the last statement. So, Adrian brings his
women in this house. I wonder if he brings them to his room and they’d have se— I
shook my head and continued walking.
The hell I care with him and his horny self.
Seeing that I reached dead end and already lost; I decided to make my way back to my room but ended up getting lost again. Sigh. I should’ve asked Alice for a map, earlier. I let out an exhausted sigh and sat on one of the ottomans at the side. I feel so hopeless at this point.
“You seem to be lost, miss” I looked up to see a boy about 7 years old with jet black hair and a striking blue eye. Yes, an eye. He was wearing an eye patch on his left eye and I don’t know if he has glaucoma or he’s just playing pirate.
“Uhhh… I kind of am. Can you help me find my way towards the outside?” I asked as I gave him a sweet smile. He giggled before giving me a smile back. What a cute little boy he is.
“Certainly, miss! Come, follow me,” he chirped as he grabbed my hand and dragged me towards who knows where. We made a turn to the right and then a left before I caught sight of the staircases. Oh, that was fast. Sigh. I’m really terrible at finding directions. We reached the front door and he led me outside towards the vast grassland.
“Here we are!” he sang as he raised both of his hands up in the air. I smiled upon his cute gesture. He somehow reminds me of a kid I know back in our pack.

“Thanks little man,” I said and raised my fist for a fist-bump. He clutched his little hand into a fist and bumped it with mine. He laughed before reaching his hand to my face and slightly caressed it.
“You’re so pretty, miss” he said with a smile. I blushed at his comment. I don’t get a lot of compliments let alone from a kid.
“Thank you. You’re handsome yourself, little man. And please, call me Sapphire. What’s your name?” I asked as I ruffled his hair. He giggled at my action before removing his hands from my face.
“I’m Josh,” he chirped as he sat down on the grass; I followed suit and we started to talk about each other’s interests. I was listening to him as he talked about his crush at school when I sensed a presence behind me.
“Josh, your mother has been looking for you for almost an hour, already. The plane leaves at 10. You don’t want to get left behind, right?” Alice came by my side and “But Alice, I want to stay here” Josh whined.
“Well you have to talk to your Uncle Adrian about that, buddy” she carried him into her arms while he wrapped one hand around her neck.
“He said that when I’m old enough, I can come back here and stay as long as I want. Alice, is old enough a long time?” he asked innocently. Alice smiled before shaking her head.
“If you go straight to your mother right now and head back home, the next time you come back here, you can stay as long as you want” Alice assured him. His face lit up before squirming from her hold and ran back to the house.
“Bye, Alice! Bye, Sapphire!” he shouted, waving his little hand at us before heading inside the blue van that was parked at the front porch. “His nephew?” I asked as I turned to Alice.
“Nah. He just calls him Uncle. Josh’s parents and Alpha are good friends and they always come and visit here every summer. Apparently, they’re leaving and moving to Canada tonight so we won’t be seeing him in the next six or eight years,” she said.
“He’s so adorable for a 7-year old. He’s really charming,” I commented. “He surely is. He and Alpha are very close
. Adrian is very protective when it comes to him since Josh is, well, a victim of bullying. A severe one, I might add. Kids his age gets scared because of his eyes while the older kids beats him up,” she added.
My brows furrowed in confusion, “His eyes?” I questioned.
“He has Heterochromia. His right eye is blue while his left is green,” she replied. My lips parted in amusement. So that explains why he’s wearing an eye patch and that he told me he doesn’t have much friends. But, I’m sure when he grows up, he’s going to be a real charmer. I mean, come on; Different eye colors are awesome!
“Well, he’s going to be a heartbreaker when he grows up,” I cracked a laugh.
“You bet,” she concurred.
“I’m going to go and take a run. Do you want to join me?” I asked. She shook her head.
“I’m good. Just be careful on your way towards the woods. There are a lot of creepy crawlies there,” she laughed before walking away. I made my way to the forest and I did a little stretching. I need to ease up a bit. It’s been a week since I last took my wolf to a run. I hid behind a large tree and strip off my clothes. Taking a step back, I shifted to my wolf.
My wolf’s color was common; it was wintry white. The only thing unique about her is she had a mix of brown fur which I do not know where I inherited from. My father’s was black while my mom’s was grey. Baffling, right? Or maybe one of my grandparents was brown. I haven’t met them actually. Let alone seen them; even in pictures.
I took my clothes by my mouth and started running through the woods. The familiar feeling of liberty sprung out in my entire system making me run faster. I let the summer breeze hit my face as I run around; dodging a few stray branches and twigs. I could feel the happiness of my wolf as she sprinted faster. We’ve both been feeling stressed out these past few days and a good run is always a good reliever.
After a few minutes of running, we caught sight of a waterfall. Feeling weary, we decided to take a break. I looked for a big tree and hid behind it to shift back into my human form before putting my clothes back on. I walked towards the lake and sat down on one of the rocks, admiring the beauty of nature. The bird’s chirping and the water splashing from the falls were like a perfect harmony. Butterflies were all over the place and different kinds of flowers sprung out everywhere. The view was picturesque!
“Enjoying the view?” an unfamiliar voice asked as I was picking up a lily.
“Yes, it’s lovely…” I turned to the anonymous man and gave him a sweet smile but as soon as I saw him, it instantly fell off and was replaced with astonishment. “Miss me, ‘lil sis?” a huge smile was plastered on his face but I was too shock to even reply, react rather. Am I hallucinating things? It can’t be him. It’s impossible! W-why is he here? How did he end up here? Have I gone mad?
“Sky?” my throat became dry but I managed to utter his name; though it came out more of a whisper. A tear escaped from my eye, staring at the person before me. After a decade he finally decides to show up? What the actual fvck!
