Monday morning (in the office)

“Good morning sir” Ann greeted.

“Good morning Ann ” he smiled”sorry for the other day please my mum is not always like that”.

“Oh” she smiled back at him with a raised eyebrow “well anyways no offence taken, what I saw that day was a woman trying to protect her son from another woman in case his betrothed appears suddenly like the flash” she grinned while saying the last part sarcastically.

“Oh” he smiled “well dinner tonight then,six pm”.

“Huh?” She casted him a surprise look.

Yes dinner tonight and you can’t deny my offer, you must accept it” he stated firmly.

Oh ………ok ” she replied looking at him strangely.

Fast forward to dinner

“So Ann do you know the part of Nigeria you came from?” Max asked over a plate of fried rice and chicken with wine.

“Yep mum said Anambra” she replied while munching her food slowly.

“What?” He asked surprised ” come again!”.

“Anambra state” she grinned.

“Wow” he muttered “what part in Anambra?”.

The ijele’s part” she replied. “Wow” he exclaimed.

“What happened?” She asked blankly

“We are actually from the same state and the same local government area, isn’t it romantic?” He exclaimed smiling to himself.

“What? Romantic? Gosh you so funny’ she laughed placing her cup to her lips .

“So tell me about the state, I don’t know anything about the state, never been there before” she said.

“Well let me start by telling you the reasons for the drama you witnessed in my house” he enucidated

“Like twenty years ago,King Lawson ruled ijele kingdom, the ijele kingdom is a very rich and prosperous kingdom in Anambra and it was ruled by the king and his wife, they had a sweet little girl Adaobi, her other name is Marietta” he narrated.

“Marietta?” She interrupted.

“Yes,do you perphaps know anyone by that name” he asked.

“No… not at all” she stuttered.

“One unfortunate day” he continued ” king lawson and his family travelled from Anambra to Lagos for a vacation where they met with their doom, they were involved in a gashly motor accident which costs them their lives well of course expect the life of the princess, but the princess couldn’t be found until now”.

“Wow that’s so sadden, but how did they die? I meant the parents?” She asked.

“They were burnt to ashes” he replied sadly.

” Did you say burnt” she grimaced ” that’s an inhumane way to die”.

“As the tradition demands after the demise of a king there must be a successor but no one can sit on the throne as the princess is no where to be found till date” he narrated.

“Oh oh so how do you come into the picture?” She asked.

“My father is a chief in Ijele’s kingdom and he was the king’s bosom friend, they grew up together, married the same day but my dad got lucky he gave birth to me before the took in three years later..

My dad and the king want to want to heighten their relationship the king’s daughter was betrothed to me

I and Marie grew up together with Nelson as friends though I have once proposed to Marie when I was nine and she was six, seriously that young girl accepted to marry me” he narrated.

What? Are you for real?” She asked smiling. “Yes” he replied staring into space.

“Apart from I and Marie being betrothed to each other, I think we love ourselves dearly,am like an elder brother to her like a knight in shining armor thing and I don’t joke with her.

But Marie being a beautiful girl and a princess she has always been showered with love and adoration,her parents adores her so much infact people started asking for her hand in marriage since when she was two”

“Wow” was all she could muttered.

“One day we were playing in the palace when we overhead her parents discussing that they want to betroth her to someone.

Marietta started crying saying she doesn’t want to marry anybody, that if she wants someone then it would be me

Then I asked her jokingly if she would marry me and to my surprise she accepted seriously. So we both took the bold step and went to meet her parent in the palace. It was there marie broke the bombshell, she told them they shouldn’t betroth her to anybody that we are engaged . Gwed if you see the embrassment, the king and the queen bursted out laughing

The king actually said no problem that he will cancel the other plan to betroth her to someone else”.

Ann was wowed that she couldn’t utter any word for some minutes

“It was later they went to Lagos and met with their doom, the princess vanished into thin air, we searched and searched but we couldn’t find her” he completed sadly.

“Then what happened to the throne?” She asked curiously.

“The throne has been vacant since then, the Oracle says the princess will walk in herself” he replied.

“Wow,what if the princess is dead or she doesn’t come back are you gonna stay single for the rest of your life?” She asked.

“Firstly she’s not dead secondly I don’t know about that but time will tell” he said more to himself than her.
