Pablo’s POV

 

“Mum, what are doing here?” I asked trying to mask my anger.

 

“I can ask you same”. She replied annoyingly.

 

“I came to see my woman. You?”

 

mum rolled her eyes childishly,” Have you forgotten so soon? Well, lemme remind you, you told this Paula girl that, I promised to come and see her. So here I’m” she grinned widely.” I came to familiarize myself with her. Isn’t it, Anna?”

 

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes. This woman is so pretentious. What was she thinking, That I didn’t hear all the horrible words she vomited just now?

 

“Well you should I’ve considered the environment. This is a workplace, dear mother”. I played along.

 

“I’m done here. Can we go now?” Mum offered innocently.

 

” Not yet mum”

 

“Then I’ll have to take the lead”. She said and resumed her steps back to the door.

 

 

“Stop faking, mum. I heard it all”.

 

She halted her steps and replied with no remorse,

 

“I’m glad you did. It makes no difference, at least i won’t be pretending any longer. I dislike her and nothing will change that. The earlier you understand, the better.” She resumed her steps again.

 

“Wait!” I stopped her.

 

Mum just pushed me into doing what I’m about to do now. I didn’t plan to do it here and not this way. But I will have to forfeit my previous plans.

 

“There is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now. And since you came all the way from home just to familiarize with Paula, then you can as well do us the honour by witnessing this”.

 

Paula stared at me in confusion.

 

What I’m about to do, I Know Paula won’t be so happy about it. But I have no choice. Mum’s actions left me with no choice. Besides the earlier I do this, the better.

 

I went down on my knees in front of Paula and brought out the customized Diamond ring. This cost a fortune. I’ve spent the last month looking for the perfect ring for my Paula and here it is, in it full glory.

 

Her eyes widened immediately they fell on the ring.

 

I stared at her for a while. I’m really not good at words. Like love poems..lol.

 

I smiled a little. I’m so nervous.

 

I know Paula loves me just as much as I do. But I can’t help thinking otherwise.

 

What if.. what if she…

 

No I won’t think of that.

 

 

I took a deep breath and took her hands in mine, maintaining an eye contact with her as well.

 

” Since I met you, my life has taken a turn for the better.

 

Life is not an easy venture. But with you by my side, I feel I can take on any challenge, I glanced at mum as I said this line and continued.

 

I feel I can handle all situations. My heart is tied to yours and I don’t wanna live without you.

 

From the moment I met you, I knew you were the one I’ve been searching for, my missing rib, my other half. In you my heart has found a home. You’re my perfect match baby, don’t make me look further. Will you do me the honor of being my wife?” I finished in a rush staring at her hopefully.

 

She seemed speechless.

 

 

 

I looked at mum once more. She was fuming with so much rage.

 

I looked back at Anna with the same hopeful face.

 

She slowly bend to my level, and threw her arms around me in a hug.

 

She withdrew and looked me straight in the eye, Nodding vigorously with tears in her eyes, she replied, “Yes, love. I will marry you again and again.”

 

That was all I needed, I grinned so widely that if I grin further my lips might tear apart. I slipped the ring on her middle finger and it fitted perfectly. It looks so cute. I placed my lips on her hand and kissed it tenderly. I won’t be surprised if I’m blushing right now. Gosh I’m so damn Happy.

 

We stared into each other’s eyes lost in our own world.

 

Then we heard a thunderous applouds I looked in the direction of where it was coming and…so much people both workers and those who came to the boutique to shop.

 

“Congratulations!” They chorused.

 

Paula smiled widely looking at her finger all through.

 

I will kill to see that smile everyday.

 

I avoided my mom’s gaze. Those eyes can kill.

 

Just as I expected, she spoke,” Since when did you start going against your mom’s wishes?” You have a lot of explanations to do.” She said and looked at Paula with so much rage, “And you, don’t think you have won. I gave you my word and I will make sure I fulfill it. Watch your back cuz you won’t know what might hit you next”. She spoke with each word laced with venom.

 

“One more thing mum,” I said and pulled a card from my suit.

 

“As my mom you can’t be left out, is my duty to make sure you’re present to share in our joy. It’s in two weeks time. Wedding bells are ringing” I added tauntingly.

 

Mum didn’t wait any longer, she left within a twinkle of an eye.

 

I looked at Paula and her mouth was wide open. She look so funny.

 

“Ok the drama is over you can all go back to your work” I dismissed the crowd.

 

I faced Paula the moment we were alone.

 

She walked quietly to the door and closed it.

 

“Since when did you plan all this? And why did you lie to me that your mom approved? What was your reasons?” She asked suddenly.

 

“My love, I’m sorry if I took you by Surprise. I couldn’t help it especially when I saw how mum acted towards you, I just couldn’t help it I just wanted her to know that you’re not just any other woman. I wanted her to see how serious I’m about our relationship and trust me if I tell you that I will fight against all the odds just to be with you.

 

And I’m sorry that I lied to you. I thought I could talk her into liking you…”

 

 

“Shhhh” she placed a finger on my lips. “It’s okay. I understand. Is just that I don’t want to be the reason behind the separation of a mother and her son. I really don’t want to cause you any troubles” she looked at me sadly.

 

“You ain’t separating or causing troubles. In fact, I have to apologise for my mom’s rude behavior towards you. “I’m really sorry for….”

 

She cut me off,” No. You don’t have to. I understand your mum perfectly. She is just a mum who is trying to look out for her only son” she explained.

 

 

 

“Gosh, Anna you’re Godsent. You’re just perfect for me. I love you so much pulled her closer and she giggled.

“You’re officially my fiance now. I feel so good. I feel like flying.” I said and she blushed.

 

“By the way, do you have any idea about my mom’s indifference towards you? Has she given you any reasons?” I asked curiously.

 

“Not really. “She replied

 

“Okay. I will find out soon. I will leave you now to do your work. I will pick you up after work.” I winked and added, ” we need to celebrate” she laughed and waved me.

 

“A night drive won’t be bad” she hollered behind me.

 

“Granted” I replied shaking my head a bit. She enjoys night drives a lot. I don’t even know what she gets from it.

 

I have to see Mom for a serious discussion. I have to know the reason why she despises Paula so much. I thought as I drove to meet Mom.

 

 

Anna Paula’s POV

 

 

I smiled as I saw Pablo leave my office. I’m so happy. My happiness knew no bounds. I hummed a tune as I go about my work.

 

 

One thing is for sure, Pablo’s mum really hates me. I will have to earn her trust and find favor in her eyes.

 

I’m still wondering why my boss hasn’t said anything yet.

 

“This incident should not happen again,Miss Devante. This is a working premises not a place to discuss personal matters.

 

Congratulations! You can take the day off” I looked up and of course it was Mrs Vicenza, my boss.

 

“By the time I found my voice to reply her, she was gone. Her words didn’t get to me a bit. I’m so grateful. I will just have to go and see Amy. I need share this wonderful news with her.

 

I just can’t wait.
