I stretched lazily and buried myself under the duvet once more.

Who is playing the music at all…. WTF that’s my phone. I jumped out of the
bed at once.
I looked around for it. “There” i said when I saw it on my study desk.
Why is Pablo calling this early? Wait! Pablo where is he? He was with me yesterday how come he… Oh I remember now.
I smiled as the memories of the previous night flooded my mind.
Then the same ringtone blurred again.
I grabbed it immediately,”hello” I cleared my throat.
“Is quite obvious. You just woke up. Get ready else you will be verrrrrry late for work”
“What?” I heard him laughing at the other end.
I left the phone quickly and rushed to the bathroom. I can’t believe I overslept.
I came out and pulled a dress from my closet of which color I don’t even know. I checked myself in the mirror and rushed out grabbing my phone along.
I checked the time and it’s 8:10am
Within ten minutes I was at Eva’s desk.
“Hi” I squeaked.
“Hi, good morning Miss” she greeted cheerfully.
“Is the boss in already?” I asked praying silently.
“Yes. She just came”.
“Oh okay.” I muttered disappointedly.
“And you have a visitor” she added.
“A visitor? Okay” I flashed a quick smile and resumed my quick steps to the office.
I got inside and a lady was sitting on my chair with her back faced to me.
That hair…it looks familiar.
I came in and dropped my bag on the desk.
She didn’t move the slightest.
“Excuse me. How may I help?” I asked the woman.
Her next words had me gasping.
“I suggest you help yourself overcome the habit of lateness rather. I don’t need any help especially not from a person like you” She sneered.
I just stared speechlessly.
“Mrs… Florencia?” I stuttered.
“What. Shocked?” She asked and laughed humorlessly.
“I’m yet to start”, she said and stood up facing me squarely.
Her gaze is so intimidating.
I avoided her stare and asked politely,” You care for something?”
She glared at me.
I continued, “Nice meeting you once again Mrs Florencia. Even though it wasn’t the best way, I think it was worth it and I’m very grateful…..”
“Cut that crap! Paula or whatever. I didn’t come all the way here to listen to this rubbish!” She yelled.
“Keep it down, Ma’am. I’m at work”. I pleaded as if she is not aware that she came to my office.
She circled me, ” keep it down. Work.” She mimicked And shouted, “my foot!”
“If I may ask, what problem do you have with me?” I asked unable to understand her actions.
Is this the person Pablo told me that she has accepted me?
Did Pablo lie?
“Well, well well, the problem I have with you is simple” she smirked.
I arched a brow, signalling her to continue.
“Bundle your miserable self out of my son’s life like the way you came and I won’t remember you or bother you again”.
My heart constricted painfully as the words roll out from her mouth. To say I’m shock is understatement.
” What?”
“You heard me”.
“You don’t mean it right? This is just a joke. You’re just pulling my legs”. I forced a smile.
“Here”. She stretched a hand towards me with an envelope in between her fingers.
“What is t..that?” I stuttered.
“Will you take it already?”
I collected it hastily and glanced at it.
“A check?” I asked.
“Yes. It is.”
“For what?” I asked in confusion.
“Girls like you and your family will do anything to get this. So instead of going through that trouble I decided to make it easy for you. I Know. I’m amazing. So take this and vamoose from my son’s life. I will double that amount if that’s not enough”.
What nonsense! This woman is so annoying. I feel like slapping her with this very check.
“Have a nice day. If possible, we should avoid meeting each other in the near or distant future”, she said and strolled towards the door.
“Stop!” I said.
“Just so you know, money means absolutely nothing to Anna Paula Devante. I’m sorry but your assumptions are incorrect. I’m not that kind of girl.” I strolled towards her and raised the check up and tear it into shreds. “This” I showed her the pieces, ” it means nothing” and I threw it in her face.
She scoffed angrily.
“I’m telling you this calmly Paula, I can’t promise same next time. This is

you’re dealing with. Lemme remind you in case you’ve forgotten. Don’t be stubborn else you won’t be able to to recognize your own shadow by the time am through with you”.
