Daniel’s POV

 

I pulled out my phone and called Pablo.

 

“Daniel” he answered after a few rings.

 

“Paula is in labour we’re on our way to the hospital meet us there”

 

I heard him cursed at the other end,”

 

I’m on my way now. Tell her to try and tell her to breath in and out.”

 

I hung up the phone and carried her in my arms bridal style.

 

Amy carried the things we bought and hurried in front.

 

We got out and she quickly opened the passenger door for me. I put her in as Amy sat beside her.

 

I ignited the engine and we left the driveway.

 

 

“I can’t get through to Pablo. Stay here i will go get him.” I said and rushed out of the hospital.

 

I went to Pablo’s Company first but I was told he left a while ago.

 

I went to his house but he was not there as usual.

 

“Damnit Pablo! Where are you?”

 

I got back into the car then my phone started ringing. I felt relieved as I thought Pablo was the one calling.

 

“Hello. Pablo…where the fu.ck have you been? How can you be so careless at a time like this?…”

 

“Calm down. It’s me”.

 

“Amy?”

 

“Yes. It’s me. Where are you? And what of Pablo?”

 

“Tell me, is Anna okay?”

 

“She’s not. She’s in so much pain.”

 

“What do we do now?”

 

“I also don’t know. Do you think something bad might have happened to Pablo?”

 

“No. I don’t think so. Go be with Anna, I will try and bring Pablo.”

 

“Okay”.

 

I got into the car and drove to the opposite direction.

 

‘Where are you Pablo?’ I muttered as I looked in the rearview mirror.

 

I decided to drive back to his company.

 

Just a few metres to his company, I saw Pablo’s Audi parked at one side of the road with the driver’s side opened.

 

Was the car there when I came here earlier?

 

I speed to where the car was and got down.

 

His head was on the steering wheel as his shoulder shook slightly.

 

I examined his features. He was fine. So why is..

 

“Pablo?” I placed a hand on his shoulder.

 

He jerked my hand away and straighten up.

 

“What are you doing here?”

 

He asked with eyes glued to the ground.

 

“Really? Are you asking me that?”

 

“Go away Daniel, I want to be alone.”

 

What is wrong with this dude?

 

“Have you lost it? Don’t you know the reason why I’m here? I’ve been looking for you all this while and this is what you ask me? That’s not even the problem. Have you forgotten that your wife is in labor and that she needs you more than ever?”

 

“Sh… she’s not my… wife!” He shouted and got out of the car fully.

 

Someone tell me this is a fu.cking dream.

 

 

Paula’s POV

 

I looked down at my stomach and groaned as another contraction hit me.

 

My door slammed open. I looked up and my eyes rolled back as I screamed through another contraction.

 

“Where is he, Amy?”

 

She breathed heavily and entered. She moved to the bedside and held her hand out.

 

I grabbed it and gripped it as tight as I could.

 

“How are you feeling?”

 

I glared at her,” There is a demon inside of me wanting to get out. How do you think I feel?” I snapped.

 

“Are you ready?” The midwife asked.

 

I looked at Amy and she nodded at me.

 

“He will come right?”

 

“I’m not certain. But for now let’s think about the baby. You’re strong you can still do it with or without him.”

 

“Why are you speaking this way? Where is my Pablo?”

 

My heart began to beat wildly when Amy looked away as tears flooded her eyes. What happened?

 

“Why are you…” I couldn’t continue when I had a strong kick.

 

“Okay. We are starting. We can’t wait for your husband any longer.

 

Pablo where are you? The pain is becoming unbearable so I nodded vigorously.

 

 

“I’m ready.”

 

The midwife nodded her head and went to the end of my bed. She nodded at the two nurses in the room.

 

She grabbed her gloves and placed them on. “Alright, on your next contraction, push.”

 

I nodded my head again and waited. My uneven pants and the sound of the heart monitor next to me filled the empty silence.

 

My eyes rolled back in my head as the familiar contraction of my muscles came through again. I screamed and with all of might might, pushed.

Four hours of pushing later, I was close to giving up.

 

My breath had become more erratic than before and my eyes threatened to drop any seconds now.

 

My throat, dry with the lack of water, continued to let out painful screams.

 

A tear slipped down my face.

 

I don’t know if I had the ability to continue on like this.

 

If only he’s around. I don’t know what is keeping Pablo from coming to me. But whatever it is, I’m not having a good feeling about it at all.

 

I felt useless knowing that my baby is suffering inside of me. But I couldn’t get her out.

 

If Pablo had been at the hospital, they would have been able to do an emergency cesarean section on me.

 

But he isn’t.

 

 

So my only option was to push until my baby get out safely.

 

“I can see the head.” The midwife muttered.

 

My eyes snapped open. The midwife had just slapped all of the fatigue away from me with those few words.

 

I leaned forth, more determined than ever.

 

I looked over at Amy. “Are you ready to be a godmother?”

 

She looked at me and nodded her head. “I’m ready.” She squeezed my hand.

 

I turned back to the end of my bed. Gulping, I closed my eyes and squeezed with all of my might as the next contraction came forth.

 

A screeching sound pierced through the room. A sound of new promises and a better future for everyone.

 

Everyone let out a sigh of relief.

 

I panted and fell back against the bed. My hair clung to my face with sweat dripping down. I let out a breath and smiled against the pillow.

 

I reached my hand out. “Can I hold her?”
