Stella was lying on a couch, watching television and her head was resting on her mum’s laps when her dad entered the sitting room. Her mum folded up the paper she was reading, gently pulled Stella up and walked to her husband. Stella watched as her dad quickly enfolded her mum in his arms andthey kissed each other tenderly. The kiss

lingered and Stella stood, smiling, “You had better stopped that nonsense or you tear each other’s lips apart.”

They disengaged and broke into laughter. Her dad hurried over and scooped her up in his

arms. He pecked her on the cheek, “Your loquacity will make you a shrewd legal practitioner.” He dropped her gently on her feet and smiled.

Thelda chuckled, “My daughter can never snatch my husband from me.” They dissolved into laughter.

Thelda looked at her wrist watch, “Darling, you came back earlier than usual. Hope everything is alright?”

Williams sat down, “Yes. We’re going for lunch at Skannish Restaurant.”

Stella looked excited, Thelda also became enthusiastic. They used to have lunch at Skannish Restaurant on weekly basis until Williams became a governor. Since they became the first family of the state, Williams had always been busy, barely having time for lunch at home. Stella ran to her dad and sat on his laps, “I love you dad.” She began fondling his tie.

Thelda said from where she stood, “I love you darling. It’s like you’ve a surprise for us.”

Williams smiled, “Too early to tell. Go get dressed.”

Stella and her mum hurried into their respective rooms. In a jiffy, they were back to the sitting room. Thelda wore a pinstripe suit and black shoes while Stella was wearing a

blue shirt on black trousers. A pair of tinted glasses was on her eyes and she was putting

on a high-heeled sandals. Williams regarded their attire and was impressed, “You look

splendid.” He confessed.

They smiled their thanks and said, “Thank you,” in unison In few minutes, they were moving towards the waiting convoy. Stella was in-between her parents, her arms entwined with theirs.

They got to a black limousine and a guard opened the rear door. They entered the vehicle and the guard closed the door behind them. The guard hurried to the front door, opened it and got in.

In few minutes, the convoy whizzed off, the siren wailing. After fifteen minutes drive, the

convoy pulled up in Skannish Restaurant.
