How can life be so cruel, Mrs Kazadi was a beautiful free spirited woman and here she was telling me that the arrogant man was her son? I had told myself that I would avoid him no matter what happened, I just had two hours more in the country and I would be out of here in no time.

‘I love your dress by the way.’ She told me

‘I must admit I love your outfit more.’ I told her truthfully

She was in flared purple dress which was knee high and black pumps whilst I was in a white bodycon dress that complimented my figure.

‘Where is home?’ she asked trying to make conversation

I could see from the corner of my eye that her son was really irritated. ‘Lusaka ma’am.’

He laughed.

‘Corny!’ she yelled

‘What mum, you know Lusaka girls are all the same.’ ‘Excuse me?’ I asked

‘You girls don’t even work for what you have, you want the city life and yet can’t afford it.’

‘Just because you have come across two or three girls from Lusaka with such an attitude that doesn’t mean we are all the same.’ I said my anger getting the best of me

‘I don’t need to eat the whole meal to know it is not good for my stomach.’

‘Typical of you, I bet you are just afraid of the city hence you stick to your boring life.’ I shot at him

‘What makes you think my life is boring?’ he asked

‘Because you wouldn’t be all over my business if you had something valuable to do with your life.’ I said as the button clicked indicating we were on the ground floor

‘Ma’am it was good seeing you.’ I told Mrs Kazadi ‘But aren’t we going in the same direction? ‘I need me a drink.’ I said

‘It’s only nine in the morning.’ She told me

‘I am a Lusaka girl remember.’ I screamed as I walked to the bar ‘A glass of water please.’ I told the bar man

‘Cold or room temperature?’

‘Cold please.’ I responded

I quickly drank my water and decided to call dad.

‘Baby.’ He said in a low tone

‘You don’t sound fine Pa.’

‘Old age.’ He said trying to laugh but I could sense that he really wasn’t fine ‘Dad you need to tell me what is wrong.’ I told him with concern

‘You my baby only need to worry about those awards, leave the rest to me.’ He said trying to cheer me up

‘I will win these awards and come take care of you.’ I said worriedly ‘Young lady I have a wife, find your own husband.’ I couldn’t help but laugh ‘I love you.’

‘I love you more.’

‘I guess the man that can love someone like you is not in his right mind.’ I heard a voice behind me

I grabbed the glass which had my remaining water and turned, without thinking twice I poured it on him causing people to stare.

‘Listen to me, Cornelius or whatever your name is. You can say anything you like about me but never again talk about my father.’ I said as my eyes glared with anger ‘Yolanta.’ Mrs Kazadi screamed

‘Ma’am, with all due respect I think you and your son should stay away from me.’ I said before walking to the conference room. ***

‘What was that for?’ mum asked with anger This was bad, I didn’t mean to make her angry

‘Mum I was just playing with her.’

‘This is not the man I raised; after the awards you will talk to that poor girl and convince her to travel back with you.’ She said her eyes not leaving mine ‘What?’ I asked

‘There is a car waiting for you, you will convince her and you will drive her back to Lusaka.’

‘But we hate each other!’ I said

‘I do not care, kill each other for all I care but at least I would be happy knowing you died together.’ She said and walked off

What had I gotten myself into, I couldn’t help but curse under my breath. ***

‘When do you plan on telling Yoyo about your illness?’ Wane asked My daughter was too mature for her age.

‘Baby we have talked about this times without number.’ I said between coughs

‘It is getting worse daddy.’

‘I know my baby.’

‘You are denying her the chance of preparing herself for your absence, she needs to know.’ She told me again

‘Yoyo is too fragile, news like that will break her.’ I said

‘She will never forgive you if you go to the grave without telling her.’ She said ‘Chansa would be proud of the woman you have become.’ I told her as I squeezed her hand

‘I am sure she is proud.’

‘By the way how is your dad and Uncle Kaluba?’ I asked ‘They are both fine.’ She responded with a smile

‘Tell me you are over that girl crush of yours.’ I said ‘Dad you are invading in my business.’

‘You are my daughter and as long as no man has changed your surname you are still my business.’ I told her

‘Mum, your husband needs you!’ she screamed avoiding the topic I looked at her and smiled.

I wasn’t at all worried about Wane and Yotam, Yolanta was my main worry. She was too fragile and my death would break her, I needed to make sure she was in the right hands before dying.
