This was supposed to be a great weekend for the Kazadis but now they lay with their backs facing each other. Children are supposed to bring you joy in your old but the Kazadi kids were doing everything possible to send their parents to their early grave.

‘I told you inviting him was a bad idea.’ Mr Kazadi began

Mrs Kazadi kept quiet, it had been a long day and the last thing that she wanted was to argue with her husband over Cornell. Over the years she had tried to make him see the twins as equal but he was a stubborn man and nothing could make him change his mind, and now that their youngest son had slept with his brother’s fiancée there was nothing that she could do that would make him change his mind. ‘This weekend was supposed to be a happy one.’ He said again

‘How can we be happy when our children are not even as close as they are supposed to be?’ she asked him

‘If only you had allowed me to discipline him, if only you had not been so bent on allowing him to leave his home.’

‘Don’t speak as if he is young, he is grown up and nothing can make him change now. The milk has already been spilt.’ She responded in the dark room wiping the tears that had been falling freely

‘You are finally acknowledging that you haven’t raised him right?’ ‘If that will make you sleep better.’ She responded sarcastically

There was some more silence in the room, Mr Kazadi had wanted to be nothing but the best mentor that his kids could ever have. He wanted them to grow up some day and say our father raised us right, but now as he lay in the dark he was beginning to question if at all he had paid attention to his Kids’ needs.

‘Where did I go wrong with them?’ he asked his wife who was thinking of ways to have her children make up before it got worse.

‘We have a long day tomorrow, maybe if you can talk to them yourself all your

questions might be answered.

I stood on the door for over five minutes, debating on whether to go and talk to my sister or maybe wait for her to confront me. I knew things were not okay because there was tension in the whole house, now I was regretting my decision of coming here.

‘Come in.’ she said in a low voice after I knocked ‘Hai.’ I said as politely as I could

She didn’t even look at me, she was busy typing something on her laptop. ‘Can I seat?’ I asked after some awkward silence

She pointed at the chair facing the bed and I settled in it not sure if I was ready to talk.

‘You know what I am trying to type?’ she asked without looking at me ‘Tell me.’ I responded excitedly knowing this could be a good way to start a conversation.

‘I actually planned on doing a story for the Kazadi’s as their anniversary present.’ She paused.

I didn’t like where the conversation was headed to.

‘But somehow I have not managed to type a constructive sentence describing just how happy a family they are.’

‘Yoyo you know every family has their own share of mistakes and misunderstandings.’

‘I am well aware of that, but you know I could have found something. Just something happy to write about.’ She said as she closed her lap top with a bang sending chills to my body

‘Let us forget about the story, I think I want to hear about your little affair with Cornell.’

That came as a shock to me, I had not planned on having anything with him and I was so sure that he wouldn’t have told her about it. ‘Yoyo listen.’ I began

‘I am all ears little sister.’

I knew this wasn’t a good time to talk to her every time she got like that it was hard to reason with her.

‘We will talk tomorrow.’ I said as I stood up

‘I have no problem with that, go ahead and run into your boyfriend’s hands. My ex’s hands.’ She said with a chuckle

‘It’s not worth it trying to reason with you because I know you have already made conclusions.’

‘Hidden passion right? Little snitch.’ She said opening her laptop with force I turned to look at her and walked out.

I knew that she wouldn’t take it lightly but I liked Cornell, somehow he was sane

around me and despite him being my elder sister’s ex I wanted for her to know that

I had not planned on hurting her.

I walked out of the room minutes after Wane had left, I couldn’t bring myself to type anything. I needed to clear my mind and I knew just where to go.

I grabbed my house slippers and a warm jersey then slowly walked out of the room because I didn’t want to wake up any one.

It was dark and cold outside but I just wanted some breathing space so I walked towards the orchard until I arrived at the chair just near the pond. I sat on the cold iron and just allowed the hot tears to fall.

‘Why him?’ I asked myself silently

‘Why my ex out of all men?’ I asked again

‘Don’t you think its best that you ask her those questions?’ the deep horsy voice asked me

I quickly wiped my tears realizing I had company.

‘I didn’t mean to startle you, I couldn’t sleep and I needed some air.’ He said

‘Makes the two of us.’ I smiled tasting the salty tears ‘Can I?’ he asked pointing at the space left on the chair. ‘Sure.’ I responded as I moved further to give him more room ‘You know I am not hurt that Esther cheated on me.’

I looked at him, his eyes sparkling as the moonlight hit him

‘Sounds surprising but actually she has done a lot of things to hurt me and I just couldn’t accept that she will never change.’
