I arrived in South Africa at exactly twelve pm, I was not excited about being here. For starters because of my previous experience and secondly because Cornell had stood me up. The thought of him sent a cold shiver through my body, I loved him way too much and at times it scared me. And the worst part is that he knew it more reason for him to act the way he did. I was disturbed with the sound of my phone ringing, I looked at the caller ID and it was dad. A few years back I would have been excited but it seems as I grew older he didn’t realize that I was no longer a little girl, he still wanted to treat me as such.

‘Dad.’ I said after picking up on the fourth ring ‘How was your flight?’ he asked

‘How did you know the time I would be in?’ I asked

‘Never mind don’t answer that.’ I quickly said knowing the kind of man my father was

‘I am glad you still know the kind of man I am.’ He said with pride

I couldn’t help but frown, I hated how he still treated me like a child. If I had my way I would get out of his presence and never return. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I don’t love my father. On the contrary I do, more than any other person alive. ‘Princess are you still there?’ he asked

‘Dad I am twenty five for crying out loud!’ I said almost screaming

‘Are you sure you are okay princess?’ he asked not omitting the word princess I was on the verge of cutting the line when he said something

‘Wane tells me that Cornell stood you up again.’ He said with concern

‘Dad whatever happens between I and Cornell is no one’s business.’ I said sharply, patting the pavement hard with my feet

‘Just hold your mother wants to talk to you.’ He said ‘My day couldn’t be any better.’ I said to my self

‘Don’t tell me you are not happy to hear from me.’ She said after much silence ‘I am mum.’ I lied

‘Princess we know you and please forget about that Cornell, he is not good for you.’ She said much to my irritation

‘Mum before you married dad what did your parents tell you?’ I asked her

‘Well that I couldn’t get married to him well because he already had you.’ She said ‘But I am glad I did, am I not just the luckiest person to have you; all three of you?’ she had added

‘Exactly mum, let me make my own decisions too.’ I said

She was about to say something when I quickly told her that I had to go because my cab was waiting.

‘Where to ma’am? The cab driver asked when he had finished putting my bags in his car

‘Blue waters hotel please.’ I said looking out the window

I loved site seeing, if I had my way I would walk all the way just so I could admire the wonderful creation.

‘Ma’am we are here.’ The driver said bringing me back to life

I did not plan on doing much, I would make my trip as less interesting as possible because I didn’t want to have so much hope.

I walked to the reception and gave the receptionist my details, apparently there was a room already waiting for me.

‘Room 105’, she said handing me a key.

I walked to the elevator and punched in the floor number, apparently the room was

on the 22nd floor.

‘Good morning Sandra.’ Mum greeted the lady at the reception

‘Good morning Mrs Kazadi, it’s good to have you back.’ She responded ‘Oh you know seeing your lovely face is always wonderful.’ Mum added

I noticed how the receptionist’s face beamed with joy, mum had a way of turning blue moments into bright ones. She loved people despite their background and that is more reason I was convinced that she would accept Esther someday.

‘Corny!’ she yelled bringing me back to life

‘You were saying something?’ I asked looking lost They both laughed

‘Here is your key.’ She said handing it to me ‘Lucky 106!’ I exclaimed

‘Lucky number indeed, your neighbour is already in.’ the receptionist said

‘Laters queen, need to call my princess.’ I said pecking mum on the cheek as I got

on the elevator

I was debating on whether to call Cornell or not, he knew my South African line but he had not made efforts to try the number. Maybe Wane was right, maybe I was showing Cornell way too much and that is why he treated me like he did. I looked at my phone once again and there was nothing from him, I was feeling frustrated and my temper was also shooting when I heard some really loud noise coming from the next room.

‘Seriously? This is a hotel and someone wants to behave like it’s a drinking place. I quickly rushed out of the room and knocked on the door harder than I had intended.

It opened a few minutes later and before me was a shirtless good looking man chewing a gum carelessly. I guessed he was in his late twenties and from his behaviour I added that he was childish

‘Did you just get tongue tied?’ the guy asked rudely

‘Can you turn down your music?’ I said feeling a little embarrassed but trying so hard not to show it

He closed the door in my face and I heard the key turn.

‘He didn’t!’ I thought to myself before starting to hit on it again

‘What!’ he screamed when he opened it again this time not catching me off guard ‘Listen here Mister, you are not the only person on this floor. If you want loud music I would suggest you go to the bar on the ground floor.’ I said sternly

‘If you want some peace, change your hotel room or better still go to another hotel.’ He said before slamming the door in my face again.
