I was seated impatiently waiting on Wane to return home from one of her evening walks, I felt really offended that she had gone behind my back and assured Cornell that I would travel with him to Kabwe.

‘Hey.’ She greeted settling into a chair opposite mine ‘Hai.’ I responded debating on what tone of voice to use

‘I am getting tired of all these evening walks, they are not even beneficial.’ She said with a sigh

‘Wane I need to talk to you.’ I said ‘Shoot.’ She responded not even facing me ‘Wane!’ I yelled much to my surprise

She looked at me startled

‘You assured Cornell that I would travel with him back to Kabwe.’ I said keeping a steady voice

‘That fool, he snitched on me.’ She cursed ‘When did you start taking his side?’

‘You got it all wrong Yoyo, that wasn’t how I intended things to be.’ ‘Tell me, how did you intend for them to be?’ I questioned ‘So he called me’

‘Wait why did he call you when he could have called me? When did you guys become close?’ I asked cutting her short

‘Yoyo he knows that you and I are close, which is why he had to go through me to get to you.’

‘Go through you? You hate this guy and he knows it. Why would he call you?’ ‘Wait Yoyo, what are you insinuating?’ she asked blinking her eyes rapidly

‘I am not insinuating anything, all I am saying is that you had no right whatsoever to make decisions on my behalf. We might be close and sisters but we need to maintain a level of respect always. Are we clear?’ ‘Yes, but.’

‘No buts Wane, next time take a different approach.’ I said cutting her short ‘I am sorry.’ She responded

‘Baby sorry is just a word, you need to prove that you truly are.’ I told her

I walked to the kitchen feeling much better that I had told her a piece of my mind, she was totally wrong to do that. We needed to have boundaries no matter how close we were, she had to bear in mind that I was her elder sister and was capable of making sound and stern decisions without her invading or getting her hand in it. I made us two cups of hot chocolate and handed her one.

‘Thank you.’ She said in a low tone

‘So when is this anniversary?’ I asked

‘This weekend but we leave tomorrow.’

‘God Wane and you couldn’t tell me before hand?’

‘I am sorry Yoyo, I thought he would tell you.’ She said almost crying ‘You think he has a heart don’t you?’

‘Yoyo he hurt you but he is still human.’ She said

‘Yeah right, whatever lies he told you.’ I said before clicking my tongue ‘Anything I need to know before we go?’ I asked

‘No except that you have to pretend to be his girlfriend.’ She said almost sinking into her cup

‘That’s it, I am not going.’ I said putting my cup on the marble table We were disturbed with the sound of her phone ringing.

I glanced at the caller ID and I could never miss the number.

‘Put it on speaker!’ I commanded

She did just that.

‘Hey.’ The voice on the other end of the line said

That deep horsy voice that had given me chills every time we spoke

‘Speak’, I whispered

‘Hey.’ She said

‘You don’t sound okay.’

‘I am, what’s up?’ she asked trying to sound casual

‘I kind of mentioned to your sister that I talked to you.’ He said ‘Good for you.’

‘Wane are you sure you are okay?’ he asked

‘Listen Cornell, you were dating my sister. It wasn’t in my place to talk to you, you should have asked her in the first place but what has been done cannot be undone.’ ‘You sound like she put up a fit.’

‘I would suggest you start calling her and stop calling my line.’ She said

‘Wait Wane, we are not doing anything wrong. On the contrary we are only talking because of your sister.’ He said

There was truth in everything he was saying but I was still against him trying to befriend her, she was young and wild and men like him could only hurt her.

‘I am pretty sure my little sister will like you, your sassiness and her craziness will fit just right.’

‘You have a young sister?’ she asked

‘Oh yah, I don’t like talking about my family a lot. Recommend you to read more interesting and erotic stories from www.generalloaded.com. But you guys are almost the same age, plus my twin brother who is as hard headed as your sister.’

‘You have a twin brother?’ I heard myself scream Wane immediately cut the line

‘Yolanta you have to come down.’ My sister pleaded

‘Come down? I dated him for a year plus and not once had he mentioned a brother, a twin for that matter and here he is spilling out information to you on a silver platter.’ I said tears falling off

I felt betrayed, I questioned everything Cornell ever told me. Did he even love me. ‘Yolanta please you need to calm down.’

‘Go and pack your things, we are leaving for Kabwe tomorrow morning and I

swear Cornell will regret ever crossing paths with me.’ I said before rushing off to

my room

I did not mean to tell Wane what I did, but then again I didn’t feel remorseful that I did. I never talked much about my siblings because I felt like the outsider, I had left Kabwe for Lusaka just so I could feel good about myself and I knew that people always preferred Corny to myself. I didn’t hate him, but somehow I envied all the attention he got. He was the good kid growing up whilst I was the black sheep. My black and his white combined perfectly to create grey, it was all good until I realised that black is just the absence of white. Like darkness is the absence of light. I only existed without him, but with him around I was nothing.

Now I was questioning myself as to why I felt comfortable telling Wane what I did, I wasn’t going to betray what I once shared with her sister by falling for her and I made a mentor note to stay away from her after the anniversary. Little did I know what awaited me.
