It was three days after losing her baby and now Azure was being discharged from the hospital. She had called Gertrude to come and drive her home because she couldn’t get the kind woman out of her mind from the time they had met.

‘Thank you for coming.’ Azure said when they got into her house, Gertrude had driven her home

‘Anytime, I came as quickly as you called. I couldn’t get you out of my mind.’ She said honestly

Azure smiled, there was just something about the older lady that made her want to tap into her way abouts. She carried herself with such grace one would wonder if the world was really going through some tough times.

‘Let me prepare you some water to bath.’ Gertrude said walking to the bathroom She was quick enough to find things around the house, it wasn’t very big and being a lady she knew how other ladies operated. She switched on the geyser and waited for about ten minutes for the water to get ready. Then she added some lavender bubble bath which was just on the sink then filled the tub with water.

She later went to meet Azure in the bedroom and helped her to the bathroom. ‘Take your time.’ Gertrude said warmly

Azure smiled back before gently closing the door behind her.

Gertrude walked to the kitchen and started working around her way, Azure had not yet started having any solid foods so she made her some mushroom soup; then grinded chicken breasts which she cooked as part of the soup.

She heard the bathroom door open and close and knew that Azure was out so she put the tea to boil.More interesting stories on Topster Stories App

‘Feel better?’ Gertrude asked immediately Azure appeared in the door way ‘I do actually.’

She told Azure to seat whilst she brought her food, she could see that she didn’t want to eat but she forced her to take even a sip of her soup which Azure liked of course.

‘I need this recipe before you go.’ She said looking at the older lady

Gertrude smiled thanking her lucky stars that her new friend here liked the soup. She watched Azure eat in silence and when she was done, she helped her seat comfortably and placed a fleece blanket over her feet.

‘You are a nice person, you look like you have had it easy in life.’ Azure said after an awkward silence

Gertrude couldn’t help but smile, it was funny how people judged the book by its cover. I mean humans only portrayed what the next person wanted them to see. ‘I have seen darker days than Akon.’ She said

Azure couldn’t help but laugh at the comparison and humor in the statement ‘No honestly I mean it.’ Gertrude said

‘Oh please Gertrude. Look at you, you are a successful doctor. I have seen how you blush each time a message notification comes on your phone. You don’t know this but you are always playing with your marriage band.’ Azure said not facing the older lady

‘I understand you and where you are coming from, but trust me I have been put under a furnace times without number just so I can get to where I am. I have been crushed and broken down. I have been walked over by the people I loved and I had to learn to pick myself up for myself and mostly my kids.’ She said with so much truth in her voice

Azure turned to look at her

‘Why do you want to help me?’ she asked, a question she had been meaning to ask from the time she walked into her life

‘Because I don’t want you breaking another woman’s home.’ Gertrude responded her eyes staring into Azure’s.

‘Yes my first marriage failed all because my husband was busy out there and another because the woman entertained him. I see good in you that is why I am here.’ She told her honestly making Azure swallow hard. **

If anyone had told me that fixing a broken marriage would be as hard as this then I would probably would have never allowed things to get as bad as this.

I stared into the mirror and saw the black rings under my eyes, my marriage was crumbling under my roof and I didn’t have the power in me to put everything back in place.

I looked at the photo that was on my side of the bed, it was the first photo that Jason and I ever took. For some reason we had decided to never remove it from

where it was now. It reminded us of the love that had brought us this far. If ever there was a climax in which our love ever was in; it was then.

I smiled when I looked back at everything that we had endured all the years, I could remember vividly how my friends always told me that our marriage would someday fail because men would always be men but Jason proved them wrong each and every single day.

I walked to the closet and packed the last of my things, it was done and there was no turning back. I had loved this life, I had loved and still loved my husband but this had just escalated into something that I couldn’t put back together. I wasn’t one of those women to stay because of the children; my husband was a good father and I knew us not being together would never change a thing in the children’s lives.More interesting stories on Topster Stories App

After finishing with everything, I got the divorce papers from where they safely were and placed my signature on them; I could feel my heart breaking but both Jason and I had made some pretty bad decisions and nothing in the world would make it all better.

I placed it on the bed and removed my wedding band, placing it just on top of the papers. This was it, our eight years of marriage were coming down to pieces all because we couldn’t have a better understanding of things. I pulled my bags out of the house and put them in the back of the vehicle, I looked at the house one more time before driving off. This was it, it was over and now I had to start afresh; but how does one begin again when the only life you have always known is that which you are leaving behind?
