Call me paranoid but I could actually feel that someone was looking at me, I looked around a couple of times but there was no one and I kept telling myself that maybe the things I had read from Ms. Mwila were just tickling my conscious.

I watched as the elevator buttons kept beeping on each floor we got, the President was on the seventeenth floor; the largest floor which only accommodated one office; his secretary’s office was on the sixteenth whilst mine was on the fifteenth. I could feel the racing of my heart as the button showed the President’s office floor. I walked out and was met by his security officers, they never smiled or talked to anyone. It was their job to just stand still and make sure that everyone who was on that floor had the permission to be there.More interesting stories on Topster Stories App

‘Jason.’ The President said

‘Mr. President.’ I said looking at him

He was trying so hard to look me in the eye, as if proving a point but I knew him. I had worked for him and with him for years to know when he was okay and when he wasn’t.

‘How is Melisa doing today?’

‘She is much better Sir.’

‘What brings you to the office, I thought you got days off.’ ‘It’s about the story that you presented to me Sir.’

‘Oh that, forget it.’

I looked at the President suspiciously but immediately changed my facial expression.

‘Sir I thought that story was important, I mean you said the opposition couldn’t get ahead of us.’

The President laughed then walked over to where I was.

‘My boy listen to me, some things are not worth it. I mean we will always be ahead of them, we are in power after all.’ He said, his voice cracked

I sighed, I knew something was totally wrong and I had to find out what exactly was going on.

‘Well, I guess I am not needed here anymore.’ I said straightening my jacket ‘And Jason, I hear there is a journalist who was trying to be difficult?’

I knew what could happen to Ms. Mwila and surprisingly I chose to keep her name out of the dirt.

‘She was just doing her job.’ I said after much thought

‘I hope you are not lying to me, you know the consequences of people that lie to me.’ He said his voice threatening

‘I am aware.’ I responded remembering all those people that had gone missing in State house without a trace.

I got to the elevator and punched in the button for the ground floor, I was there in no time and headed straight to where I had parked my vehicle. I had to see Ms. Mwila, it was important that she gives me everything she knew or her life would be in danger.

The congestion didn’t do me a lot of justice as it was already after 5pm when I got to Mark Anthony printers, luckily she was just driving out and I signaled her with my hazards to stop.

She rolled down her window and didn’t hide the shock on her face when she saw me.

‘Ms. Mwila.’

‘Mr. Mtonga?’

‘I know this might sound really crazy but I need to talk to you.’ I said almost

pleading

Azure knew he would go back, it was in her line of work to make people curious. To find out things that the ordinary citizen didn’t see even if they stood on their toes.

‘Follow me.’ She said and rolled her window up

She drove out of the yard with Jason following her, she knew a restaurant in

showground’s that was hidden. They got there after an hour of battling with traffic,

she got out of the vehicle and he did too.

‘Is this place safe?’ I asked her as she walked into a noisy bar She just smiled at me and continued leading the way.

I looked around and God the things I saw made me want to puke, they were young boys wearing pants that were almost falling off their waists, I made a mentor note to talk to my boys and lecture them on how not to become like these kids. They were smoking cigarettes and some were sniffing on what looked like cocaine and I couldn’t help but wonder how a place like this could be legal. There was a strip pole right on the middle and girls that were very young were busy show casing their skills and men old enough to be their fathers were throwing money at them. ‘What is this place?’ I muted under my breath ‘Freedom.’ Ms. Mwila responded not even looking at me

She came to a stop right at a brick wall, it was uniform to the rest of the place except it had a single button in blue which one couldn’t see if they didn’t look closely.

She pressed it and it opened just small enough to accommodate her, she signaled me to go in and I had to walk in my sides just for me to fit.

The room was dark but immediately the wall behind closed, a single light lit. I tried to adjust to the environment as we walked in a corridor that led us into a clean white room. One couldn’t even imagine that there was a saloon in front.

The room looked like a restaurant, a respectable good looking restaurant and the people their all looked elegant and I couldn’t help but wonder where they came from.

She led us to the end of the room where they were two chairs hidden from everyone; she stopped, removed her jacket, put it on the back of the chair then sat down

I only sat after she had. A waiter came and asked us what we wanted, I really didn’t want anything as I had questions but Ms. Mwila ordered us hot chocolate and cookies.More interesting stories on Topster Stories App

‘This is not a social outing.’ I said immediately the waiter had left us.

‘You don’t strike me as a man that cheats on his family.’ She responded looking at my wedding band

I smiled, I could never in my right mind do anything to hurt Mel.

Our orders were brought and Ms. Mwila dug into her food, I must confess the hot chocolate and cookies tasted divine.

‘You wanted to see me?’ she asked sipping on her hot chocolate I picked a napkin and wiped my mouth

‘This might sound crazy but I think there is something huge going on.’ ‘There is always something going on with the government.’

I sighed deeply, it was like she was trying so hard to scream she told me so but on the same hand trying to act professional.

‘The papers you showed me, I want to know where they came from.’ I told her She looked at me deeply into the eyes without saying a word.

‘We were followed.’ She managed to say after sometime ‘What?’

‘Someone followed us.’

I laughed.

‘I see you too are becoming paranoid.’

She quickly grabbed her jacket and removed her shoes.

‘Run.’ She said catching me off guard

I started to run following her, a door opened and it led us into another passage that had an exit. When we got outside we found a car with a running engine and she took the driver’s seat and sped off in an instant. If not for my being fast she would have left me.

‘Where are we going?’ I demanded

‘Hold still.’ She warned as she made a sharp turn.
