Chapter seventeen

 

 

Vic pov

 

I couldn’t go to school because of yesterday, she is leaving soon.

 

Everything is all ruined, how will I carry on without her.

 

Suddenly I heard someone banging on the door.

 

I went to open the door and saw Esther standing in front of me.

 

“What do you want?” I asked not letting her in.

 

 

“Vic I told you am sorry about what I did, I want you to know how much I love you. I love you so much” she said seductively.

 

“Stop being pathetic and go away” I said trying to close the door, but, she used her hand to stop the door, and entered without permission.

 

“Am not leaving” she said and crashed her lips on mine. Due to the surprise I stood still but push her away when I saw ife in front of me.

 

“Ife!” I said and pushed Esther away.

 

“I want you to know it is not as you think it is, just listen to me” I said while she slapped me.

 

“You never loved me from the start, it was all her,” she said pointing at Esther.

 

“It will never be me, everything, dis was all lies and I curse the day I met you, the day I fell for you.”

 

“You disgust me” she said and left my house crying.

 

“Ife, pls wait” I said but she didn’t listen to me as she hailed a bike.

 

“Shit” I said frustratedly sitting on the tarred road.

 

I went back and saw Esther in living room sitting comfortably.

 

“What are you still doing here?” I asked.

 

“What do you mean? We were having fun when dat bitch came in, but we can still continue” she said as she approached me.

 

I surprised by slapping her while she look at me shocked.

 

“If you don’t want to leave here wounded, leave” I said coldly without thinking about my actions as she leaves.

 

I have lost everything.

 

I went to her house in the evening but I was told she wasn’t around but I know her mom was lying. She probably doesn’t want to see me.

 

I’ve really lost her.

Saturday:

 

 

Junior pov

 

I head to Ife’s house knowing she is leaving today.

 

They already had their stuffs packed.

 

“Hey” I said to Ife who was in her room.

 

“Hi” she said weakly.

 

“I guess dis is the day” I said.

 

“Yes, am leaving” she said.

 

“Where is Vic?” I asked since I didn’t see him here.

 

“Let’s not talk about him, am busy” she said and left me alone in her room.

 

Dis is not right, he really loves her.

 

This can’t be the end of them.

 

I left Ife’s house and went to Vic’s house.

 

I knocked on his door and his mom answered the door.

 

 

“Please am looking for vic” I said after greeting her.

 

“Vic, you have a visitor” she shouted.

 

“Come in” she said and I did.

 

Vic came out of his room, he was a mess.

 

“What do u want?” he asked unfriendly.

 

“Can we talked in private” I said.

 

“Ok” he said and sighed.

 

We went to his room.

 

“So what do you want?” he asked.

 

“Ife is leaving” I said but he seems not surpried.

 

“I know,” he said

 

“You’re just going to let her leave like dat, no goodbye, nothing?” I asked.

 

“Maybe it is better like dat” he said.

 

“She doesn’t want to see me anyway” he said.

 

“So? I thought you guys love each other. I thought you loved her, I guess you two were just fooling around” I said.

“I deeply love her, so much” he said.

 

“No, you don’t if you do you won’t be here” I said.

 

 

“She is the one who doesn’t want to see me, you don’t know anything” he said.

 

“You are wrong, I know you two are in love with each other and I know that ife is probably excepting you to come see her one last time” I said.

 

“You think so?” he asked.

 

“I know so” I said.

 

“Ok” he said and picked his jacket.

 

“Let’s go” he said and went outside his room.

 

“Mom, am going Out” he said.

 

“Wait, I made cupcakes” his mom said.

 

“Later” he said.

 

“But I could wait and have cupcakes” I said while he glared at me.

 

“Or not” I said and followed him.

 

 

Ife pov

 

I look around my pink painted room, all the pictures with him.

 

All d things we have done together, all the memories but none of dis matters anymore cos am leaving.

 

But what really baffled me is dat all dis memories dat we shared, will I forget after I leave.

 

Will I still remember it, I wish I’ll forget them as soon as I leave dis city, all our memories should remain in dis city as soon as I leave.

 

I just want to forget about him, about d guy who was neither my friend nor lover.

 

“Ife” my dad called me.

 

“Yes papa,” I said.

 

“The bus is here,” he said.

 

“We should get going,” he said.

 

“Ok,” I said and went to him.

 

I look at my room for d last time.

 

“We should go,” he said putting his left hand on my shoulder.

 

“Ok,” I said smiling.

 

“Good bye,” I said to my room and followed my dad out.

 

“Ife,” my mom called me.

 

“Yes mama,” I replied.

 

“Is dis what u really want?” She asked.

 

“Yes mama,” I said and smiled.

 

“Let’s go then,” my mom said and we all entered d bus.

 

My dad was sitting with the driver while I and my mom were at d back seat.

 

I look at d city for d last time.

 

“Goodbye,” I said as a droplet of tear fell from my face.

 

I keep wondering if I made the right choice, leaving him.

 

 

“Did I make the right choice,” I said sobbing.

 

I look back and saw a bike man following us, I look closer and saw Vic and junior on the bike.

 

“Stop” I said hitting the car.

 

“What?” my dad asked.

 

“Stop” I said and the driver did.

 

I get down from the bus.

 

The bikeman stop and junior paid.

 

While both Vic and junior came to me.

 

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

 

“I couldnt let you go without saying goodbye” he said and tears dripped down my face.

 

“And yesterday you were wrong, it was you right from the start since I met you but I was afraid to say it. I don’t want to lose my friend but deep down I know I want us to be more than just friends” he said and I cried more.

 

“If I knew you were going to leave dis soon, I would have asked you out the day I pecked you. I was so foolish to chose the wrong person and now I have to let you go, all of our plans” he said as tear rolled from his face.

 

“I will have spend every second, every minutes, every day and night with you but humans are bound to make mistakes right? and that was my mistake.”

 

“I just want you to know anywhere you are, wherever you go, you will always be in my heart. I love you ife” he said.

 

“Vic” I said crying.

 

“I love you too” I said and hugged him.

 

My dad cleared his throat when he saw us hugging, am sure he didn’t hear our conversation.

 

We pulled away, “let’s go ife” my dad said.

 

While I looked at Vic.

 

“it is OK, dis won’t be the end of us” he said.

 

“I will miss you” I said.

 

“Same here” he said.

 

“Go” he said smiling.

 

“Bye” I said and entered the bus.

 

I looked at the window, I waved at Vic as the driver drove us off.

 

 

Vic pov

 

I watched as the bus drove off, till it was out of my sight.

 

“Are u alright?” junior asked.

 

“To be honest, no, but it is ok” I said.

 

“Sure, it is not easy but, you’ll get over it” he said.

 

“I hope so, and also thanks for your help and am sorry for all those punches” I said and we both laughed.

 

“Well it was fun, and it hurts but I deserved it” he said.

 

 

“Yeah, big time” I said and we both laughed

 

“Vic” we heard someone calling my name.

 

I turned back and saw ife running to me.

 

She ran up to me and hugged me, throwing her weight on me.

 

“What happened?” I asked confused.

 

“My dad changed his mind, I and my mom will be here till I finished my jamb and waec and if we are lucky and meant to be. We could get admitted into the same university” she said.

 

“Wow” I said and hugged her tight.

 

I pulled away.

 

“I thought dat was our last moment” I said.

 

“Almost” she said.

 

“Almost our last moment” I said and hugged her again.
