She didn’t have his attention but she needed to get it out of her system before it was too late. “Please listen to me. I know you are different from me. I know it is okay for people in your world to have relationships that aren’t… permanent.. relationships that keep changing with time. But I can’t.. I mean.. I am not used to..” “What are you trying to say?” Nikloi asked still holding her waist.

“I.. I don’t blame you. This is probably what you have always seen and therefore this is what you expect in return. And I did accept it earlier but these past days have made it clear that my expectations from y… from life are much more than what you have to offer.”

“And what do you think I have to offer?” Nikloi asked her.

“You.. you said you want me.”

“And what is wrong with that?”

“There is nothing wrong with it. It’s just that..”

“Are you telling me you don’t want me? Because if you do, I am not going to believe you”, Nikloi said while running his thumb across her lower lips. The touch was enough to send another shiver down her body. His other arm was wrapped around her waist and he could feel the way her body reacted to his touch. “See?” he asked the question only to make his statement. He was making it more and more difficult for her.

“I want you too”, she finally got the words out of her mouth but couldn’t lift her eyes to look into the satisfaction in his eyes.

“Then give yourself to me. Both of us want the same thing.”

“No, both of us don’t want the same. You want something today while I need a relationship for today and for future”, Chrissy said exasperatedly. But when Nikloi raised his eyebrows, she quickly lowered her head.

“I know you don’t feel that way. You never experienced such emotions. But me.. I … I am not okay with a physical relationship without any emotions. I need more. I want more. I can’t sleep with someone whom I don’t love.

“So are you saying you won’t sleep with me?”

“Ohhh why don’t you get it? I am saying that I love you !”

The truth was finally out. Chrissy felt a dam being lifted from her heart and she couldn’t stop the deluge of emotions that was to follow.

“I am in love with you. I have been in love with you since the time you kissed me in Bath. It was too much to ignore my feelings any longer. I had known it in my heart but I couldn’t bring myself to have an emotionless relationship with you based on just your physical desire for my body. I fought it with every ounce of strength in my body. I kept running away from you. But in the end my love for you overtook every other thought I had. I was willing to accept whatever you had to offer.”

“That day at the yacht had confirmed to me that I couldn’t run away. That I had fallen in love with you all my heart and soul and body. And I was willing to give whatever you were interested in. Even if it was just my body. I gave myself to you. Completely. In spite of my brain telling me that I should avoid, I should run, I should say NO, I said YES to you.”

Chrissy expressed all her emotions, her fears, her apprehensions and finally her passion she had experienced in all those days. All her pent up emotions came out in open and with that came the tears. Tears of frustration, tears of regret, tears of hurt at being ultimately being rejected by him.

With tears flowing down her face, she said to Nikloi in a low voice, “In your office, you had told me you wanted me, you needed me. You had said I belonged to you. And I had believed you. I trusted every word you had said. I accepted every demand you had made from me. If you had taken me right there in your office, I wouldn’t have.. I couldn’t have stopped you. Because I loved you.”

“But the very next day you had rejected me. You had gone by what others had told you instead of even listening to me. You had even denied me an explanation. You

had not believed me. You had thrown me out of your life.” The emotions became too strong for her to continue and soft cries replaced her words. She would have completely broken down.

But Nikloi

who had been truly stunned for the first time in his life, who had frozen at Chrissy’s emotional confession, was pulled out of his stupor by those cries. Seeing her breakdown, he felt as if someone had squeezed his heart. He couldn’t let her suffer anymore.

He pulled her in his arms and kissed her cries out. He kissed her with all his strength, all his might to erase the painful memory he had created. He kissed her warm and deep. He kissed her hard and strong. He kissed her till her cries had died out and turned into moaning. His lips moved to her cheeks and sucked away her tears. Chrissy slowly opened her eyes to see him ardently looking at her face.

“I know what I did was wrong and how I wish I could erase the memories of that disastrous night, Christina. I want to kiss you till you the only thing you remember is this kiss and forget everything else that has happened in the past”, he said with strong ache. She could hear his genuine regret & passion in his voice.

But there was nothing to be done to change the past. And she didn’t want to continue sulking in what couldn’t happen. She was more interested in future. His intense kiss had given her some hope. Somehow it had struck a chord in her heart, that there could be a future for them after all.

Trying to move on and to lighten his misery, she questioned playfully, “Everything? I wouldn’t want to.”

He smiled looking at the twinkle in her eyes and Chrissy could see him changing right in front of her eyes. That smile, miraculously made him more humane, more compassionate, more caring and she loved him so much more at that instance.

“Care to share which part you don’t want to forget?” Nikloi asked.

“uhmmm.. I will tell you but before that I have to ask you something?

.He nodded his head while still holding her at her waist.

“How did you know of that house in North Hampton? And how did you reach there just in time?

Nikloi’s face suddenly turned serious. He took her to the sofa and made her sit next to him.

“That’s one of the biggest regrets I have among many others. I had been a complete idiot. I would never forgive myself for being so late and letting those scoundrels hurt you.”

“But you reached at the right time. You saved me!” Chrissy emphasized.

“No, Christina. I should have never allowed it to happen in the first place. Truth is, it was all my fault that Susan decided to hurt you. And she did that number of times before I could come to know of it and stop her.” His face had turned hard and he was holding his hands in tight fists.

Chrissy took his hands in her hands and tried to relax him.

“If it wasn’t for Henry, I would have never known. I would have never forgiven myself if Susan had succeeded in her evil plans.” He grabbed her again next to his chest.

“Henry?

“Yes, the boy really loves you. He went to confront Susan after you told him about what all Susan had done to you. Susan knew Henry would tell me sooner or later, so she got him locked up and went to get you with Jake Tilly. Her men beat him up badly but he managed to escape and came to me.”

Chrissy was quite surprised to hear Nikloi speak about Henry’s feeling so casually as if he had always known about them and also to know that Henry had confronted Susan for her. She had specifically asked him not to do anything but guess he couldn’t keep himself from doing nothing about it.

Nikloi continued, “I was shocked to hear all that from Henry. I had never dreamed Susan would stoop so low. She had been a family friend for years and though I never loved her, she was the woman I was about to get married to.”

Chrissy stiffened at hearing him talk about his marriage to Susan. It was not easy to hear him accept about it. She tried to move away but he didn’t let her.

“It was a mistake. I should have never agreed. I knew marriage between us was never destined to be a happy one but I had still gone ahead because I wasn’t interested in any relationship anymore and just wanted this whole marriage thing behind me. I thought Susan knew me well so wouldn’t have unnecessary expectations from me.”

“But when Hen

ry told me about meeting you in North Hampton and everything you told him about Susan trying to murder you multiple times because she suspected you to be having an affair with me I lost my mind.”

“I immediately rushed to the place where they had kept Henry locked. Those men would not be able to walk for six months to come but I was still not done. I wanted to kill Susan right then there. But then those men told me about her latest plan and I felt the blood freezing in my veins.”

“Steven had tried to stop me but I had run like a crazy men, telling him to get the police along with him. I had driven the car at the highest speed from London to North Hampton, praying to all the Gods that I am not late. But seeing you lying on the ground in that house, my heart was crushed in my chest. I was so afraid that I was late”, his arms tighten around her.

“I had never experienced happiness as much as I did at the moment you answered me in my arms”, he said lifting her head to look into her eyes. Chrissy could still see the fear in his eyes.

“I am fine. You saved me”, she repeated herself to calm him.

“You were badly hurt. Before I could reach you, Jake and Susan had managed to cause you a lot of hurt. You were unconscious for more than twenty hours in that hospital. It was one of the worst times in my life. I was plagued with all kinds of terrible thoughts”, he said pulling her hard against his chest.

“Stop torturing yourself. It was not your fault. You didn’t know. And I am really fine now. Look, it doesn’t even hurt now”, Chrissy pulled away from him and smiled up to him lovingly. She didn’t want Nikloi to carry this burden. It was no one’s fault. Susan had hated her from day one because of that kiss she had witnessed in Nikloi’s conference room.

The memory of their first kiss caused her heart to flutter restlessly again. She suddenly had a strong urge to touch her lips. But she resisted it, instead she pulled her lower lip inside her mouth to stop it leaking her secret desire.

Nikloi who was watching her intently, noticing her every move, asked her, “You are sure it doesn’t hurt anywhere?

“No, seriously. I am alright”, she said stretching her arms on either side of her body. “See!”

The moment she said it, he stood up and picked her up in bridal style. “Good, cause I have plans for us.”
