The police and even the lawyer confessed we had a strong case and that if we used our cards well we’d get Justice. He told us to get a strand of hair from Fred or anything he had used in other to send them to the forensics along with the cigar that was found.

 

By the time we were done with all that it was almost 8pm. We had lost track of time running to and fro the station and the forensic lab.

 

“I’m so sorry we kept you to this time dear Steph, I’ll have Victor get the car and drive you home okay?”

 

“Uncle it’s no issue I’ll drive her home” Jeff said

 

“You know your license won’t be validated till next week right? If you get arrested that’ll be another issue so please go inform your dad to come over with a car. “I know you’re wondering why my uncle can’t drive us right?” Jeff asked

 

“Uncle Martins had a problem of trembling when ever he drove for a long time,it was almost like he went numb,he couldn’t feel his hands anymore so he’s always driven about by a driver. He’s had this problem for a long time as a result of panic attacks and hypertension, though he has been treated it still disturbs him a lot so please..”

 

“Oh no! It’s okay I didn’t even want an explanation but I understand him and it’s

 

fine okay?”

 

“Thanks babe”

 

“Hey dad!”

 

“Jeff,what are you doing out so late?”

 

“Good evening sir” I greeted him looking away.

 

“C’mon dad! We went for the investigations and everything I told you about! Don’t tell you forgot?”

 

“Sorry son,it skipped my mind. It’s late though. Oh! Yeah! Your uncle Martins can’t drive her home,it’s alright you get in the car dear” “I’m coming along too Dad”

 

“Fine Jeff,get in too!”

 

We all got in and he drove off.

“Oh Damien! I’m so full already. Please just drive me home. It’s very late already I’m sure my kids are worried now.

 

“Alright get to the car , I’ll meet you there after clearing this up okay?”

 

“Alright, please hurry!”

 

*Susan’s POV*

 

What if my kids see him and ask who he is? No! This was a bad decision,I can’t do this now. I’ll have to get out of here before he comes here.

 

I got out from the restaurant but couldn’t see any cabs. I walked down convincing myself I’d see a cab too.

 

I got tired but still kept walking.

“Where did Susan go now?! Could it be she left cause i wasted time? Or she doesn’t want me dropping her at home?”

 

I got into my car and drove off in search of her.

 

I saw her at a distance staggering like a drink person. She was obviously tired from walking.

 

“Susan! Hey Susan! What’s wrong with you? Why did you leave like that?!”

 

“I’m sorry Damien! I just don’t know what’s going on in my head Right now”.

 

“It’s fine,just get in okay?”

“Hey Steph! Where’ve you been and why haven’t you been picking up?” It was Ben and he sounded really angry and worried too.

 

“I’m so sorry I stayed out this late but I’m on my way back now, Jeffrey’s dad driving me home and Jeffrey is here too. I’ll explain everything to you when I get back okay?”

 

“Fine! I’ll be waiting outside for you with Stacy so please hurry and have you

 

heard from Mom?!

 

“No,i haven’t today”

 

“Alright, I’m waiting for you” And he hung up.

 

“Take a left here sir!” I said to Sir Victor

 

He got to the gate and horned and then it was opened,just as I got down to see Ben coming towards me, another car drove in and mom alighted.

 

She looked shocked ! Almost like she’d seen a ghost.

 

“Susan?” Victor said.

 

“Mom!” I said

 

“Steph! That’s the man I told you is my dad” Be said to me.

 

“Calm down baby” Stacy said rubbing Ben’s back.

 

“Mom! Please explain to me who this is and how you know him! Ben’s told us everything already! He followed you to the restaurant and now you can’t lie. Je over heard you telling Mr Damien here that Ben is his son.

 

“Susan! Damien?! Your boss? He’s the father of Benjamin?! You slept with your boss while we were still married?!” Mr Victor said in shock.

 

“Huh?! What’s going on! What do you mean by she slept with him still married to you!” I shouted

 

“Steph honey, please calm down we all can talk inside”. Mom begged crying “No! No mom! No one’s going anywhere till i know the truth and Steph too” Ben shouted back.

 

“Please calm down y’all! I’ll talk. For starters, Victor here is my ex husband,your father Steph!” Mom said crying.

 

“Wait! Mom! Do you know what you’re saying? Look at him again! This is Mr Victor Jackson! He’s Jeffrey’s dad! Then I paused for a while,I remembered when she asked Jeff out of the house and warned me not to keep in touch with him. “Mom! You knew this from the beginning?! You knew all these things and you never told me? So this means Jeffrey is my… my…half brother?” I said crying on my knees

 

“Dad! What’s going on here? What is this woman saying?! What are y’all saying!” Jeff asked still surprised but very much angered.

 

“Please let me explain, Victor and I were married for a year without a child and well that was our personal decision because we knew we weren’t stable enough to cater for a child and at that point.. instead of being a supportive husband he went around sleeping with Rich women so he could get money as he had claimed! He didn’t come home sometimes and when it got out of hand i confronted him and what did he’d do?! He raised his hands to me! He left the house then and didn’t return till after 3 days. I got to work and then my boss Damien noticed the bruises and asked what happened. I confided in him and we got close,I saw him as a great friend but he took advantage of that by blackmailing me and eventually slept with me….” She paused to clean the tears and continued” I had already been having

 

unprotected sex with Victor because I wanted a child then after the whole year so I didn’t even think I’d be pregnant for Damien instead. When Victor found out I had an affair with my boss,he left me denying both Benjamin and Stephanie as his children! He forgot that he made worse mistakes too! He left me and I was forced to cater for you both alone!! He resurfaced later begging me to tell him if he had a

 

 

child with me and I later met him at the wedding with this young man here , Jeffrey. Damien had been begging me for forgiveness ever since and I chose to forgive him. I was scared to tell you this because I didn’t want to lose you or make you hate your dad’s either. U didn’t want my son to be referred to as illegitmate! I’m so sorry please…. I’m so sorry..”

 

I… I never knew all these dad!.. you never told me this..and now my life is ruined. The girl i love,the only girl I’ve ever truly loved is my sister?! No ! No!!” Jeff shouted crying.

 

“Mom!” Ben shouted crying

 

Mr Damien explained everything to us begging for forgiveness too but we all were in so much pain we couldn’t even think straight.

 

I went over to mom and hugged her. She was the strongest woman I’ve ever seen,she had the heart to forgive the man who had ruined her,her marriage and caused her so much pain. She had single handedly endured and numbed the whole pain.

 

“I love you Mom! I love you!” I said hugging my mom who was crying so much and saying,”I’m so sorry! I’m sorry..”

 

“Steph!” Jeff called

I turned to him and then he said,he tried speaking with all the tears flowing,”even nature knew you were too good for me too. This is why I don’t get you as a life partner but as a sister…. I can’t explain the kind of pain I feel right now but… My

heart bleeds, I can’t…. Arrgghh!!!!”

 

“Jeff, please stop. Don’t hurt yourself please!” I said crying

 

We both hugged each other for a long time and then he said to me,” well I’m still lucky you get to be part of my life. I’ll forever love you,my best friend!” Damien drove off afterwards while we all remained there. Mrs Nuel had come over to be there with mom,after all she was her best friend too but Jessica wasn’t there with me.

 

Suddenly mom lost consciousness and fell to the floor.

 

“Mom! ” Be shouted

 

“Mom!mom! Get up mom! ”

 

“Get some water Steph” Stacy said

 

“Jeff please get the water in the car”

 

“Sure dad!

 

Mom wasn’t waking up either so we rushed her to a nearby hospital.

 

 

Ben had agreed to accept Damien but he was fine with being around mom and going about as one without a father. It was quite tough for Jeff too as he had lost his mom too some weeks after they attended the wedding party. We all tried to be there for mom in her sick bed.
