I Will Wait – Episode 12
_12_
Friday morning I woke up really early, I had not slept much because I was reminiscing on everything that had happened the past few weeks. Once upon a time I was so in love with Cornell, I felt like the lady who would tame him and bear his last name, the woman he would walk the aisle with, the woman that would bring forth his future generation. But I guess we can’t always have what we want; as I lay awake in my bed I think of the possibility that my man, well my ex could have a soft spot for my little sister. Well she is Wane and everyone loves her.
Now I think of the plan that I am trying to put across, pretend to be the perfect girlfriend to Cornell in front of his family then break him apart when he least expects it. But then isn’t that going to cause me more pain, what will I gain by inflicting the same amount of pain to him? What do I gain by doing the same thing to him that he did to me?
I turned and saw how peaceful my baby sister lay, she was a beauty and I wouldn’t at all be surprised if he fell for her. But would I be comfortable with that? Knowing that she put him together whilst I failed? Won’t society label me a failure? But then again when did I start caring about society.
‘Good morning beautiful, how was your night? Mine was wonderful with you by my side, when I; open my eyes and see your sweet face.’ Wane smiled as she sang Steve Holy’s good morning beautiful
‘Good morning.’ I said kissing her forehead lightly
‘You were up most of the night.’ She said with a huge smile
‘Couldn’t get enough sleep little one.’
‘Want to talk about it?’ she said before yawning
‘Have you thought of the possibility that Cornell might fall in love with you?’
‘Nop.’ She answered without hesitating
‘Really?’
‘Yoyo you worry too much, remember it is not in our place to control fate. Whatever happens is out of our reach, we have no control over it.’
‘At times I feel like I am the kid.’ I told her
‘It’s okay to be a nerd.’ She said before we both laughed
‘Wake up, we have a long trip ahead of us.’ I announced feeling better.
‘Do you honestly think that I would date your ex-boyfriend?’
‘We are not in charge of fate, are we?’ I asked trying to us her words against her
‘That my love is not fate, it is called doubting what we have. Have some faith in me.’
She went ahead to take a bath whilst I cleaned up. Two hours later we were ready and Cornell was already waiting for us.
‘My car keys please.’ I told Wane who was about to lock up
‘We can use my car.’ Cornell said removing his sunglasses
‘Impress the girlfriend.’ I said as I tied my hair into a bun
I heard him laugh
The drive to Kabwe took us about four hours, under other circumstances like being in Cornell’s car I know we would have been there in three hours but I wasn’t much of a reckless driver like he was.
We got to Kabwe town and stopped to refuel.
‘Honestly how far before we get to your village?’ Wane asked as she stretched her back
‘It is not a village Wane, it is a farm’ he responded showing off his perfectly shaped white teeth
‘Are there any more surprises?’ I asked him as I gulped down some cold water
‘Actually yes, my mother is a very loud woman.’ He said pointing at Wane
‘And why is he pointing at me?’ she asked rolling her eyes at me
I couldn’t help but laugh, life is quiet funny. Now that we are no longer together we have something to laugh about.
We drove to the farm which was about an hour from Kabwe town and boy was I mesmerized.

‘This is beautiful.’ Wane said as we got off the vehicle
‘And you decided to come to Lusaka?’ I asked not believing how the place looked ‘Cornell!’ a girl Wane’s age screamed when she saw us. ‘Hey baby.’ He said as he embraced her
‘I missed you my knight.’
‘I missed you more princess.’
He looked like a different person as he embraced her, he looked peaceful.
A little tear escaped from his eyes.
‘Ahem, enough of the tears, can I embrace the princess too?’ Wane asked causing us to laugh
‘Yeah sure.’ He said
‘Hai I am Wane.’ She said extending her hand ‘Kendra.’ The other girl said ‘Beautiful name.’
‘Dude yours is like better.’
‘Pardon me, this is my elder sister Yolanta.’ An excited Wane said ‘You are pretty.’ The girl told me ‘So are you.’ I said with a smile

‘Honestly I don’t see why you are insisting on us staying in a hotel, this is my home and you are always welcome.’ I snapped as I talked to Esther
‘Baby all I am saying is that I don’t want to be a burden to your family.’
‘Burden? Woman you are supposed to be bonding with my family and you are here talking about being a burden?’ I asked not believing her one bit
‘Cornelius please.’ She begged
‘We will talk about this later.’ I said when I saw mum coming our way
‘And I thought you will go outside to meet your brother.’ Mum said
‘I need to leave.’ An anxious Esther said
‘You will go out there with me and meet my brother, get over whatever demons have come over you because it is going to be a long weekend.’ I told her
She looked at me with teary eyes.
‘You can talk later for now let us all go outside and meet our guests.’ Dad cut short
We all walked outside and I almost turned back if not for my parents.
‘Yolanta!’ mum screamed
For a moment everyone was quiet, we all didn’t know what was happening. What was the minion doing here and with my brother for that matter?
