“You thought you can escape easily after trying to kill me?”

 

I stopped turning the knob.

 

“Where are you off to when the game you’ve started hasn’t ended yet, mother and daughter?”

 

That’s Toby’s voice. I thought he died.

 

He’s alive?

 

“Here’s news for you Aria, am really alive. You tried your best but it wasn’t enough. Try harder next time. I’m really disappointed in you, I was really blind to had let Pearl associate with you. May the Lord forgive you.” He said in a weak and tired voice which was filled with calmness.

 

How could he remain calm after what I did to him?

 

The lights suddenly came on, revealing the entire family.

 

Among them was Betsy. She walked dangerously towards me. When she got closer to me, I couldn’t help but cower.

 

I trotted backwards fearfully. My movements halted when the back of my foot came in contact with the luggage in which our belongings has been packed. I lost balance and fell on the luggage, my waist hit the tiled floor so hard that I found it difficult to stand.

 

“Mum.” I called softly and groaned in an excruciating pain which I felt at my waist.

 

I brought my hand up for mum to help me get up.

 

She took my hand and tried helping me up but suddenly fell strongly on top of me.

 

I went back to the ground as mum’s weight crushed unto mine.

 

“C’mon mum. How could you be clumsy now. It’s hurts.” I complained bitterly.

 

As I was trying to get mum’s weight off me, my eyes made contact with the pair of feet in front of us.

 

I looked up and it’s was a deranged Betsy with an evil smirk. There’s no doubt that she was the one that pushed my dear mum.

 

I craned my neck and looked at the faces of the people surrounding us with fierce looks towards mum and I. Pearl’s face bore that of disappointment, pity and

 

 

sadness. There was no trace of anger. While the men’s face was neutral, unreadable expressions which made them more dangerous.

 

At this point, there’s only one person who could save us and that’s Pearl.

 

 

BETSY’S POV

 

 

I was beyond mad, livid, exasperated, angry, I really don’t know how to name what I was feeling but one thing Is sure; I hate Aria so much right now. If I had my way, I will strangle her and her excuse of a mum right at this moment and in front of everyone.

 

I knew she could be greedy or selfish at times but I never thought that she’s capable of murdering someone in order to have her way. She has cross the line this time and I will make sure she feels the intensity of what she did even if everyone decides to forgive her.

 

I walked towards her like an angry lion without taking my eyes off her. I made sure the fire in my eyes was dangerous enough to rattle her. She tried moving back but fell. My intention was for her to keep sprawling on the ground painfully but my blood boiled when her mum tried to help her. I gathered all my strength and pushed her fiercely without any form of remorse.

 

For once, the sight of someone in pain was pleasurable to me. I felt contended seeing them groan in so much pain.

 

What they’re feeling now is not even compared to what granny Toby felt when she was knocked into unconsciousness by this serpent of a friend.

 

We thinking that he died for real announced his death and his body was prepared for burial the next day. Thank God he wasn’t taken to the morgue else we would’ve lost him for good.

 

He said he had escaped from the coffin while the father was praying at the graveyard before his body was lowered unto the ground.

I was scared when I saw him. I almost died out of shock. I thought I had seen a

 

ghost but after listening to him, I realized what he was indeed alive.

 

 

It’s was there that he told me all that Aria did to him and made him do. He also told.me the truth about Pearl. I put two and two together and got a clue on what Aria’s plan might be. But I wasn’t sure until I took Toby home.

 

I took him home and sneaked him inside my room. I took one of my dad’s clothes and shoes for him.

 

Then I got him some food to eat. When I was going to get him a glass of water, mum and dad together with my brother were in the room listening to news.

 

I heard the Mariana name on the TV. It’s was the same name Toby said was on the necklace.

 

I got curious and listened to the rest of the news which says that she was yet to be found and if anyone had a clue on where she could be, they should be notified.

 

A number and address was then mentioned. I quickly copied the address since I couldn’t take the number correctly due to how fast it’s was mentioned.

 

I went back inside and broke my piggy bank and took all of the money I had been saving for college some years ago now.

 

It’s was enough for the flight to Queensland. But there was still one problem, Toby’s passport got carried away by the flood.

 

We still went to the airport and after convincing the people at the checking point countlessly, We were allowed to go on board.

 

The plane took off at 8:30 pm and since it was 17 hour flight, we got to Queensland around 2pm. I left Palau without my parents knowledge but I hope to be back in time after exposing Aria.

 

 

It’s wasn’t so difficult to locate the Dominguez’s mansion because of how famous they were.

 

After ranging the doorbell for some minutes, a man came out and I instantly recognized him as Megan’s dad, the prosecutor.

 

He demanded to know of our mission and I was hesitant at first but after a second thought, I realized he could help us in a way.

 

He listened to our story silently and after I was done, he showed us our rooms at the boys quarters.

 

In the evening, we were directed to the mansion by a guard after dressing up in the clothes that was provided.

 

We were met with a large decorated hall with so many rich guest.

 

I was confused at first but when I spotted Aria, I understood everything.

 

I was elated when I saw Pearl being given what was rightfully hers.

 

While Aria and her mum got trapped in their own webs. Nemesis has caught up with them at last. The inescapable of their downfall.

 

I looked down at them in hostility before speaking,”Does it hurts, Aria?”

 

She nodded shamelessly.

 

I smirked and watched as she managed to get her mum off her.

 

“Here, let me help you up.” I stretched my hand.

 

She looked at me in with doubts on her face.

 

“Don’t you wanna get up Aria? Or you are planning to sleep there forever? I don’t think so. Whoa! You thought I was joking, am sorry but I don’t have cheap

 

 

thoughts as compared to you. Will you give me your hand now before I change my mind?”

 

She held my hand after what I said and I pulled her up. Without waiting for her to balance her feet properly on the floor, I snatched my hand from hers and gave her the slap of her life.

 

A helpless cry escaped from her mouths as those watching only gasped in surprise.

 

“That’s for lying to me when I confronted you to know the reason why you suddenly wanted Pearl to live with you. You told me your intentions were pure right? But it was all lies, lies and lies.!” I said in rage.

 

My hands connected to her cheeks once again on the same cheek and I made sure its was strong enough to leave a mark there. The sound echoed in the hall.

 

She held her reddened cheek tears cascaded down her face. I remained faced.

 

“And that is for betraying our friendship and my trust.!” I yelled as I tried to control my breathing.

 

I raised my hands again to slap her when her mum shouted,” Stop it Aria. How dare…”

 

“No, how dare you interfere in what I was doing? Keep quiet because you don’t have a say, got it?” I interjected.

 

And when Aria and everyone was least expecting it, I gave her another two hot slaps on the other cheek.

 

“How dare you try to take a life Aria? And by doing so you hurt my friend, you brought tears to her eyes and ain’t gonna spare you at all ! .” Tears spilled from my eyes as I pounced on her.

 

She tried fighting back but I held her two hands, locked them behind her back and knocked her down with my feet.

 

 

I descended upon her and delivered punches after punch as she wriggled under me like a worm.

 

By now all the people had gathered and tried to stop me but I was oblivious to their pleadings.

 

My fist began to hurts so I aimed for her neck. I did what I’ve been dying to do. I strangled her till she was out of breath.

 

“Pl..pl.. please Bet.. Betsy..am dying.. please let me go.” She struggled to say.

 

“Was this not what you did to Toby? Am sure it’s fun, so keep quiet and enjoy it.

 

This is just a taste of your own medicine nothing new.” I said, panting heavily.

 

I was filled with so much rage that i could kill her right now.

 

“It’s enough Betsy, calm down.”

 

I felt someone lift me up forcefully and i tried to break free.

 

“Let go! ” I struggled.

 

I was brought down and i rushed to her again and tried kicking her with my feet when my leg got suspended in the air.

 

I looked down at the reason why my leg couldn’t meet it’s target and the person responsible was Pearl.

 

She looked up at me with teary eyes.

 

“Stop this Betsy. If not for anything, do it for me.” She pleaded.

 

“Yes, stop it Betsy.” The rest said.

 

“Tell me one significant reason why I should spare this criminal Pearl.” I looked down at her and she shook her head slightly.

 

 

I looked up the rest of them,”You should all give me a reason why I should let her be!” I demanded with a kind of braveness I never thought I had.
