As i entered the car i was greeted a very cold breeze and my hair stand up.

 

 

 

omo this people dey enjoy oo, see as everywhere dey cold, ah swear rich people na bastard” I thought.

 

 

 

so where next? ” the man asked when he got the next junction then I told him.

 

 

 

so where you dey go for alakija street?…..cause na where I kuku dey go be that” I asked.

 

 

 

really?…..we are going to meet my mother” the man said.

 

oh okay…..na from Lagos you dey come so?” I asked.

 

 

 

yes, we just came to visit mama” the woman said.

I keep leading them to the place till we got exactly right in front of grandma Richards.

yes this is the place” the man said as he packed the car.

As they disengage she went to hug the woman as well, then she turn to me.

 

Joseph, how did you meet them? ” grandma asked.

so sorry about that mama, they are not around that’s why, they are on vacation ” the man said.

 

 

 

yes mama, they are in America with my sister” the lady said this time around.

I was just looking at the three of them as they keep talking not even noticing if I’m in the room or not.

He started counting then he stopped and handed the money to me, i was surprised and don’t know what else to do as it’s the first time I will be seeing so much money not to talk of touching it.

 

 

 

” c’mon collect it, I give you” the man said and i turned to mama and she smiled at me.

 

 

 

I was dumpdounded then i collected the money and roll on the ground in front of him as my mode of appreciation.

Mama help me thank your son oo” I said turning to the mama.

As I got outside I pick up a nylon and put the money inside so that I will not lose it.

 

 

 

I pick up a rope and tied the money with it and tie it to my waist for more security, I’m not letting big money like that lost.

As I got home my mother was shouting at me for where I went to.

After grandma Richards and her son end daughter-in-law ate for the night they seated together in the parlor.

 

 

 

mama how are you coping alone in this area?” Mrs Richards said.

 

I’m doing well jaree my daughter ” grandma replied.

 

 

 

mama I’ve told you to let me get you a maid to help you out in the house, you can’t keep doing this to yourself…..don’t you feel lonely?” Mr Richards said.

 

 

 

i no feel lonely at all, that boy Joseph and his mother they come to help me out sometimes ” grandma said.

 

 

 

 

” how did you get to know that boy Joseph and his mother? ” Mr Richards asked.

 

uhn…..you should be thankful to that boy” mama said.

 

 

 

thankful as how?” Mrs Richards asked again.

 

the reason I’m still alive is because of that boy, he saved me from accident ” mama said.

it’s okay if his mother agree then we will take him with us” Mr Richards said.

(Next Day)

 

 

 

My mother and I got up the next day and prepare the food we are going to eat today.

 

 

 

I went to the market to buy foodstuffs like and rice and beans, I also went to buy meet as well and some other ingredients.

 

 

 

Ah swear money na good thing, to get money na very good thing, infact money sweet.

 

I can’t even remember the last time I eat rice cause it was very long, except the ones mama collect from party.

 

 

 

We cooked rice that very morning and our belly sing a joyful song for it’s the first time I will ever eat something like that.

 

 

 

Poverty na bastard, it don turn garri my best food since there’s no other food, ah ah I can’t believe meat is that sweet.

 

 

 

This is the first time for everything in my life, first time to cook a pot of soup full of meat.

 

First time to I will eat the meat that I cooked and it is very delicious.

 

 

 

After we’ve eaten and rested we stood up and left to granny richards place.

 

 

 

As we got there my mother told me to behave myself before them and I nodded affirmative then we entered the house.

 

Good mawrin for here oo” my mother greeted as we entered.

 

mama Joseph, you have come ” granny said as she came out of the room.

Good morning sir, good morning ma” I greeted as I prostrate before them.

mama Joseph, this is my son I talk to you about from Lagos, and that’s his wife ” granny said to my mother.

mama Joseph…..it’s okay just stand Up” the man said and my mom stood up.

 

 

 

mama Joseph, sit down I want to tell you something” granny said then turn to me.

mama Joseph, I told Joseph to call you yesterday cause I want tell you something very important ” granny said.

 

 

 

okay mama….. Wetin be that?” my mother asked.

 

 

 

I have tell my son about it and he agreed to it but it remains just you to approve ” granny said and I wondered what she’s talking about.

 

mama what is it? ” my mom asked.

 

 

 

I told my son to take Joseph to Lagos, so that he won’t waste his time in this village, so what do you say? ” granny said and I was both shocked and surprised.

 

 

 

ehh…me josefu going to Lagos……aaahhh ah go show them for Lagos ” I thought.

 

 

 

My heart jump Up for joy as I heard that and I looked at my mother and realise that her reaction is not that of happiness.

 

 

 

thank you well well, mama and I thank you for wetin you don do for us but my answer na NO” my mother said and I was shocked.

 

Eeehhhh” I shouted loudly in surprise.
